Buybacks are a great idea. But their execution is an ABOMINATION.
Who wouldn't love to find an original, unaltered vintage card inserted in their packs? Instead their beauty is marred; literally "defaced".
For now, only the most egregious "defacings". At the end of the list are a few interesting ones.

My collecting goal is 1 card per unique player/team combination. This list documents new additions to that collection.

The dates listed on the entries reflect the date I added the card to my TCDB collection, not the date I acquired it.

Not one to trust myself, I am starting to go through my alleged complete sets and verify them against the database.

Each player's card is from 1997 or the next possible year, except that multi-player cards, game cards and a few other types are skipped over and used only absent other options. Minor league cards are used as a last resort. I own each card pictured, but I need a card of KERRY LIGTENBERG from the 1998 BRYAN BRAVES non-perforated set, and would love to hear from anyone who knows where one (or even an image) could be found. The more I collect, the more interested I've become in getting a bit more free-form. Collecting all the Topps sets is nice, but other quirky "sets" are more fun.
Especially when I'm buying vintage cards, where I'm likely to only buy one card from the set, I need some reason to buy one card over another. I go for Cubs, but I don't know any of the non-stars from each other. So how to decide? I do a little research and find the cards of guys with quirky trivia attached to them.
Here are the cards I bought almost exclusively because there is odd trivia connected to the player. There's plenty of great trivia connected to other card I have, but I bought many of those cards for other reasons.
As always, feel free to suggest others. I'll probably want to buy them.

Donruss Rated Rookies that I need to complete the run of 1984-1993.

The first Can I Keep My Jersey in two years. Derick Brassard (Who I saw play in the minor leagues in Syracuse) has played for the most teams of any active player in the NHL with 10.
Note: He does not have a card with the Panthers.

Only cards with dogs and an athlete, no cards of dogs by themselves. I am not going to track the Ajax Dog Food or Milkbone Dog Food sets.

Which cards had the impossible task for attention following the most iconic baseball cards in history? Let's take a look!

I’m guessing these had to have been an SGA in commemoration of the closing of the original Busch Stadium/Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis

As far as I can tell, according to this site anyway, these probably are the first “retired” sets that concentrated on specific franchises.

Of course there had been sets released previously featured random, or not so much random (HOF sets, Connie Mack’s All-Time All-Stars) assortment of past stars, as well as sets dedicated to one player (Babe Ruth, Ted Williams (though Williams was active at the time).

But nothing before dedicated to the past of a franchise as a whole, or a specific season or era in team history.

Additionally, one of my "projects" is to get at least one card of the baseball HOFers from during their playing days - provided they appear in a Bowman or Topps set (T-206 and Goudey HOFers would not fit in that "affordable" price range).
