1972-73 Cubs come to life in film documentary by theFalcon (Last updated on Oct 7, 2020)

MUST SEE!!! I wasn't a Cubs fan in the early '70s, but I sure knew they had a few stud ballplayers. "King of the Hill" focuses mostly on Fergie Jenkins, but you'll also see many of his teammates and opponents.

PLUSES - Fantastic photography, vintage cactus league uniforms, revealing conversations.

MINUSES - They added a completely phony after-the-fact play-by-play by Jack Brickhouse. Plus, they showed games out of order to create a fake narrative, which only works for people who know nothing about baseball.

No-helmet hitters during the 60s & 70s by theFalcon (Last updated on Oct 5, 2020)

This is my first attempt at a list. I wanted to come up with one that was quirky and challenging to create. I got the idea by watching the 1965 YouTube video of the Reds' Jim Maloney no-hitting the Cubs. Pete Rose batted with a soft cap which had some kind of padded liner on the inside of it (the outline through the cap was quite visible).

As background, by the late 50s the NL and AL said all players must wear batting helmets, but the rule was not enforced. At the Dec. 1970 winter meetings, the major leagues mandated the helmet rule for all players who signed up after that point and "grandfathered" players who signed before that.

Feel free to suggest additional players, but please include a source for them. Thanks.

The Misery of a Cincinnati Sports Fan by TheToddFather21 (Last updated on Oct 2, 2020)

The last Cincinnati Sports team to win a Championship was the 1990 Cincinnati Reds. In the 25+ years following, the Cincinnati teams have found the most heartbreaking ways to loose. Most recently the 2012 Reds meltdown against the Giants in the NLDS, the Bengals collapse against the Steelers in 2015, and the #2 seeded Cincinnati Bearcats blowing at one point a 22 point lead against Nevada in the first weekend of the 2018 NCAA tournament. In the words of Cincinnati Sports Radio personality Mo Egger, "At some point something good has to happen. I keep telling myself this. I'm starting to not believe it."

Happy Birthday by jupiterhill (Last updated on Oct 1, 2020)

Originally the concept was called "The Birthday Binder" which I would have one card for each day of the year. Since I moved away from binders, I have created a collection on here and will also use this list. The only criteria is each person depicted must have their birth date listed on the card. They must be real people, but otherwise, any celebrity, athlete, politician, or whoever may be chosen for that specific date. At times I reserve the right to remove or replace the card or the person for that date. I will try to update it at the beginning of each month, and whenever I add or remove cards.

"The Bronx Zoo" - they were crazy! by theFalcon (Last updated on Sep 23, 2020)

UPDATE: I think 32 cards is a good amount to call it complete and I mixed in a few non-Yankee cards for spice.

My dad came home from work one day in 1979 and gave me Sparky Lyle's book as a gift. I had not asked for it, but I guess he knew that I had lived and died with the Yankees during the '76 thru '78 seasons. Holy cow, I assume he did not know how profane and scatological this book was! However, it was also a laugh riot! Here are a few clean or cleaned-up excerpts in chronological order ... the list will be finished when I get to the 1978 World Series.

My Favorite 75 Cubs Whom I've Seen Play by Vvvergeer (Last updated on Sep 21, 2020)

September 21, 2020. Yu moves in. Hamels never made it. Kimbrel doesn't look like he has much of a chance.

I've been a Cubs fan all my life. The conscious-of-baseball part of my life starts in about 1970. I've watched some pretty bad teams, but there were always players -- some great, some just fun -- whom I loved to watch. This is my attempt to compile my favorite 75, roughly in order of preference. (It started as 50, expanded to 91, then I cut it back to 75 -- so many players I remember). As you can see, it's not just about stats. There are some odd choices in here. Some, I just liked their grit. Some just had great nicknames. The deeper you get into the list, the more they blend together in order of preference. And I'm probably forgetting quite a few....

The representative cards are the the oldest card I have of each player as a Cub. (Had to pick SOME criteria).
Hope you enjoy it. Feel free to remind me of players I probably loved but left off the list.

Aaron Nola Base Cards by Slug03 (Last updated on Aug 28, 2020)

All major released base cards. Base cards are described as cards attached to the regular set of cards of which you can receive a pack or box set of -- this includes promotions. However, there are two caveats. One, these sets must be available nationally (Or regionally if the region is large. For example -- Topps Utz), not just locally. Two, the "base card" must not feature any autos or memorabilia, cannot be a SP version of another base card in the same set, and cannot have a stated print run (or serial number) below 100.
