Baseball people in the background ... '60s & '70sby theFalcon - 90 cards (Last updated on Mar 28, 2024) |
For now, I'm going to omit "traditional" action cards to make the list more manageable in length.
42. 1970 Topps #194 Chuck Manuel
I think that's Jim Kaat (36) in 1969 ... don't know if this is spring training or regular season. |
43. 1970 Topps #273 Ralph Houk
Elston Howard (32) at Yankee Stadium, probably from 1969, but I can't see if Houk has the 100-year patch, so it could be from the early 60s when Ellie was still playing. |
45. 1970 Topps #384 Gary Neibauer
Not sure ... if this is 1969 spring training, then #36 has to be Claude Raymond. If it's not spring training, then it could late-season call-up Oscar Brown. I don't think that is #35, which would be Phil Niekro. |
48. 1970 Topps #594 Jake Gibbs
My best guess is Thurman Munson(15) at Yankee Stadium, who was a late-season call-up in 1969. However, it might be Tommy Tresh, who was with the Yankees thru June 14, 1969 before being traded to Detroit. |
49. 1970 Topps Super #12 Roberto Clemente
Coach Don Leppert (6) at Shea Stadium in 1968 or 1969 ... even from a distance you can see his usual cheek bulge. |
50. 1971 Topps #4 Vic Davalillo
This is from the same photo session used for his 1970 Topps card ... I hadn't noticed Curt Flood's profile at the batting cage until recently. |

Yeah, I don't need to see a #8 to identify Yogi, LOL.
Cool Concept! I don't know haw modern you want to get in the future (since this says 60s & 70s), but here's a couple off the top of my head: https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/1340/cid/234927/1999-Topps-194-Rey-Ordonez (w/ John Cangelosi) https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/1411/cid/251410/2000-Topps-37-Rey-Ordonez (w/ Ellis Burks) These are action shots, but there are a lot of cool cards featuring an out at 2nd, so that could also be a concept. Just a couple ideas that you could take or leave.

I'm adding about five cards at a time, which is enough work for me ... add in action cards from the '70s and I'll be doing this forever ... a separate list of action-only cards from the 60's and '70s would be more manageable in scope if anyone wants to take a crack at it ... here's a Pete Rose I discovered recently:

Good find, I'm inclined to agree, so I'll add Koosman.
1978 Topps #38 Willie Montanez | Trading Card Database (tcdb.com) I believe that's Rod Gilbreath in the background. 1977 O-Pee-Chee #85 Bill Singer | Trading Card Database (tcdb.com) Tom Bruno 1977 O-Pee-Chee #103 Mike Willis | Trading Card Database (tcdb.com) I think that's Chuck Hartenstein, it looks like a 24.
I added Bill Singer ... not sure about the other two. |
