1992 Pro Set

User Comments

1 - Mike Croel SL - Denver Broncos

Rookie of the Year

1992 Pro Set #1 Mike Croel Front

Nov 29, 2018 - 4:49AM
Los Angeles Raiders

I like how this card shows Mike Croel as a run defender, with him tackling Cincinnati Bengals running back Harold Green. I say that because back in the 1990 to 1993 period, his talent as a pass rusher was what he was known for in college and in the NFL.

2 - Thurman Thomas SL - Buffalo Bills

Player of the Year

1992 Pro Set #2 Thurman Thomas Front

Nov 29, 2018 - 5:05AM
Los Angeles Raiders

Thurman Thomas was HUGE in the 1991 to 1992 period, so Pro Set made it their business to let trading card fans know that with this card. I just wonder why his card wasn't the first card in the set, because Mike Croel (no. #1) wasn't nearly as big a star in the 1991 to 1992 period as Thurman was.

The photos on the front and back of this card looked to be taken circa 1988, because the Bills uniforms and helmets had a different look in the 1989 to 1991 seasons.

3 - Wayne Fontes SL, HC - Detroit Lions

Coach of the Year

1992 Pro Set #3 Wayne Fontes Front

Nov 29, 2018 - 5:25AM
Los Angeles Raiders

I like how this card shows how comfortable Wayne Fontes looks in all that cold weather Detroit Lions gear. Also Fontes looks like he is seriously into the game that he was watching on the field.

The photo on the front of this card is a serious 1990s era time capsule. Fontes was well known back then for being the head coach of a franchise that had one of the most prolific offenses in NFL history and of course that Starter jacket that he is wearing. You can't get more 1990s than Starter jackets, New Jack Swing music, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, and Michael Bolton.

4 - Anthony Munoz SL - Cincinnati Bengals

Man of the Year

1992 Pro Set #4 Anthony Munoz Front

Nov 29, 2018 - 5:41AM
Los Angeles Raiders

What a portrait of one of the best football players who ever played in the NFL in Anthony Munoz. Munoz in this photo looks super serious and like he is ready to go dominate some defensive end or outside linebacker.

The photo on the front of this card was taken in either 1989 or 1990, because the Bengals played the Los Angeles Raiders both of those years at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The brownish seats in the background of this photo, is a dead giveway that this photo was taken at the Coliseum.

5 - Steve Young SL - San Francisco 49ers

Passing Leader

1992 Pro Set #5 Steve Young Front

Dec 3, 2018 - 12:23AM
Los Angeles Raiders

Even though the 49ers didn't make the playoffs in 1991, that year was Steve Young's coming out party and this card was a tribute to that. I like how on the back of this card, you get a week by week analysis of how Young did as a passer during the '91 season. And then on the front of this card, it shows Young's trademark passing stance.

6 - Warren Moon SL - Houston Oilers

Passing Yardage Leader

1992 Pro Set #6 Warren Moon Front

Dec 3, 2018 - 12:41AM
Los Angeles Raiders

It's a trip that the front photo on this card shows Warren Moon in a game against the Washington Redskins in 1991, a game in which he didn't throw a touchdown pass and he was intercepted twice. But that doesn't take away from the fact that the 1991 season was one of the most prolific passing seasons in Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans history.

7 - Emmitt Smith SL - Dallas Cowboys

Rushing Leader

1992 Pro Set #7 Emmitt Smith Front

Dec 3, 2018 - 12:57AM
Los Angeles Raiders

Emmitt on the front of this card is getting a high five from a teammate. You better bet your buns that the Cowboys high fived him a lot from 1991 to 1995, because he carried not only their running game in that period, but he also helped to carry the Cowboy franchise.

8 - Haywood Jeffires SL - Houston Oilers

Receiving Leader

1992 Pro Set #8 Haywood Jeffires Front

Dec 3, 2018 - 1:12AM
Los Angeles Raiders

Whoever at the Pro Set Trading Card company that was responsible for the photo on the front of this card, they deserve serious credit. That photo shows Jeffires in a game against the Jets in 1991, a game in which he had his most receptions in a single game that season (13).

Jeffires was the NFL's receptions leader in 1991 and this card really lets you know that.

9 - Marv Cook SL - New England Patriots

Receiving Leader – TE

1992 Pro Set #9 Marv Cook Front

Dec 3, 2018 - 1:26AM
Los Angeles Raiders

The New England Patriots weren't very good in the 1990 to 1991 period (a combined record of 7-25), but at least Marv Cook was having a banner career in that period.

The photo on the front of this card was taken on December 30, 1990, a day that the Patriots played the New York Giants at Foxboro Stadium.

I wonder why Pro Set used a photo from 1990 instead of 1991 on the front of this card? Maybe it was the best photo that the company had of Cook in a celebratory pose. I don't know, I'm just speculating.

10 - Michael Irvin SL - Dallas Cowboys

Receiving Yardage Leader

1992 Pro Set #10 Michael Irvin Front

Dec 3, 2018 - 1:42AM
Los Angeles Raiders

The photo on the front of this card was quintessential Michael Irvin in the 1990s. Irvin was one of the most exciting and flamboyant football players in NFL history.

If a person didn't know jack spit about what type of personality Irvin was or what he accomplished on the field in the 1990s, looking at this card (front and back) would give any person a good indication on what Irvin was about back then.
