1975 Topps
User Comments |
I was a kid growing up in the mid '70s living in Philly. My two favorite players in the world were Pete Rose and Thurman Munson. Th e '75 Topps was the very first set I ever collected. I love those colorful borders. The '75 set reminds me of the '63 Corvette split-window. It was the only year that they did these beautiful colors. The cards are crisp and colorful. I remember saving my money for packs of cards. My first holy Communion, birthdays, Christmas. Two pieces of advice that I was given when I first started collecting, never rubber band my cards and to never mark the checklists I'm glad I listened and I still have them to this day And I love them just as much now as I did when I was collecting them as a kid. I collected '75 to '93 Topps and I built sets '71 to '74 in the last five years.
Could this be the most important set of the decade? Cards have more '3-D' treatment of team names and the best rookie class since 1955. The colors (some are which are hideous) seem to work even though they do not match franchise uniforms depicted. Perhaps this is due to the images being part of my collecting conscious for so long.
I really like this set. They scream 70's, sort of like the 1990 Topps set scream the 90's. I had always wished they released a set during the 80's that incorporated neon in some way... as opposed to that wood paneling set that should have been released during the 70's too.
This was the first set of cards I ever bought, I was 7 years old and would spend my entire $1 allowance on packs of cards and the long rope gum at the local .05 and .10 in Westwood (Not SoCal, but NorCal). I never completed the set and it kind of went by the wayside until I found them about 2 years ago and put them in a binder. I just completed the set, with the Brett RC and the Fred Lynn RC card. Now I only need about 40 more cards for the mini set and my first childhood memory will be complete.
My first packs, don’t know how many or even opening them. I would have been 5. I remember when I was 6 finding them “again”. I was so excited to find out I had a Johnny Bench card. Such a blessing to discover baseball in 1975 living near the Big Red Machine.
My grandmother gave me this complete set new (mail order I believe). In 1973 and 1974 I built the sets from packs and trading. I sorted into teams and filed them in a box. They got less handling and I remember it's wasn't as much fun but I liked the cards and especially the color. Brett RC and Aaron set were memorable. I love this set as a collector and especially with the sentimental value....not to mentioned I'm a Royals collector so it has the Brett RC!
The design is similar to the 1971 Topps football All-Star cards. This is one of the ugliest sets Topps ever produced. Some of the color combinations are nauseating. It would have been a lot better if they had used matching teams colors.
Always loved the colors of this set. I didn't start collecting until 1980 so I could never afford this set as a child, and as an adult I can't justify buying it for myself, so I still just admire from afar.
My first pack was 1975 Topps. Too young to remember specific cards. Dad bought me the cards so he could have the gum.
This was the first pack of cards I ever opened on my own.
I do believe this was the set from which I purchased my first pack of baseball cards. Sure had a lot of them, but nothing earlier (was 10 in 1975). Of course, none of those (or any other baseball and hockey) survived the 1970's.
Love the colors on the borders. One of my favorite sets.
This has to be the coolest Topps design of all time.
First packs of cards I got when 5 years old. Got me hooked on baseball and when I was 7 started my collection. Still have those cards from the rack pack in my collection and know each card from that pack.
I finally figured out how to distinguish between the Topps and Topps Mini wrappers. Look at the baseball. Red stitches are Topps wrappers, and Black stitches are Topps Mini wrappers.
First pack of cards I bought from the deli near my house was Topps '75. I remember getting a Tom Seaver card & giving it to my dad, who is a huge Mets fan.
first pack of cards i ever opend was a pack of 1975 topps. i didnt know any of the players and was mostly interested in local teams cubs and sox and the colorful borders. only player i remember was Boog powell. cause he had a funny name!
First pack of cards my dad bought me was a 1975 Topps from our little grocery store. The rather forgettable Fred Scherman of the Astros is the only card I can remember seeing in that first pack. Been collecting ever since, and have all the Topps sets from 1976-2012. Thanks, Dad!
This set started it all. I have complete topps sets from 1976-2011 and still going. |
