Top 25 Baseball Birthdays (according to v3)

by Vvvergeer - 105 cards (Last updated on Apr 14, 2021)

93. 1991 Topps #329 Dave Justice

#4
April 14

Pete Rose (should be HOF) - 79.7
Greg Maddux - HOF - 106.7
David Justice - 40.6
Marvin Miller - HOF - na

All-time hits leader; top 10 pitcher of all-time, solid All-Star, and huge influencer on the game to break any ties.

Justice isn't a Hall of Famer, but a big-time all-star worth including, with over 300 homers and a RoY award.

Love the All-Star Rookie cards.

94. 1994 Upper Deck Baseball: The American Epic #74 Marvin Miller

#4
April 14

Pete Rose (should be HOF) - 79.7
Greg Maddux - HOF - 106.7
David Justice - 40.6
Marvin Miller - HOF - na

All-time hits leader; top 10 pitcher of all-time, solid All-Star, and huge influencer on the game to break any ties.

This man should be in the Hall of Fame. A huge influence on the game.... and now he is.

Seems like a decent card, that I don't have.

95. 1961 Topps #300 Mickey Mantle

#3
October 20

Mickey Mantle - HOF - 110.3
Juan Marichal - HOF - 63.0
Keith Hernandez - 60.4
Juan Gonzalez - 38.7

Most the legends don't seem to share birthdays with other HOFers. But Mantle does, with Marichal. Both Keith Hernandez and Juan Gonzalez have arguments to be in the Hall, as well.

Mantle is Mantle. I won't bore you with the stats. A legend.

Got this card years ago when my mother-in-law gave me a prepaid credit card for baseball cards. It was hard to spend so much money on cardboard all at once. I got over it.

96. 1971 Topps #325 Juan Marichal

#3
October 20

Mickey Mantle - HOF - 110.3
Juan Marichal - HOF - 63.0
Keith Hernandez - 60.4
Juan Gonzalez - 38.7

Most the legends don't seem to share birthdays with other HOFers. But Mantle does, with Marichal. Both Keith Hernandez and Juan Gonzalez have arguments to be in the Hall, as well.

Marichal was a six-time 20-game winner with a career 2.89 era. Never won a CY.

I love the look of the 1971s, so I thought I'd use this one, which I own.

97. 1993 Topps #34 Juan Gonzalez

#3
October 20

Mickey Mantle - HOF - 110.3
Juan Marichal - HOF - 63.0
Keith Hernandez - 60.4
Juan Gonzalez - 38.7

Most the legends don't seem to share birthdays with other HOFers. But Mantle does, with Marichal. Both Keith Hernandez and Juan Gonzalez have arguments to be in the Hall, as well.

I never took huge notice of Gonzalez, but he was really good. Like 434 homers, 1400+ rbi, .295 hitter, 2 MVPs good. Might just make the Hall, as well.

Just took one of the least offensive 90s cards.

98. 1980 Topps #321 Keith Hernandez

#3
October 20

Mickey Mantle - HOF - 110.3
Juan Marichal - HOF - 63.0
Keith Hernandez - 60.4
Juan Gonzalez - 38.7

Most the legends don't seem to share birthdays with other HOFers. But Mantle does, with Marichal. Both Keith Hernandez and Juan Gonzalez have arguments to be in the Hall, as well.

Hernandez won an MVP and 10 Gold Gloves and was a .296 career hitter. Might still get in the Hall someday.

Hernandez was more of a Cardinal than a Met, to me. None of his cards thrill me, but I have a spot in my heart for the 1980s.

99. 1990 Topps #336 Ken Griffey, Jr.

# 2
November 21

Ken Griffey, Jr. - HOF - 83.8
Stan Musial - HOF - 128.2
Freddie Lindstrom - HOF - 28.4
Bobby Mathews - 55.1

Two major HOFers in Griffey and Musial, supplemented by a third, plus a 297 game winner. Hard to ignore.

Griffey, of course, managed 630 homers, despite being injured for about a third of his career. Not to mention the 10 gold gloves, MVP award and 2781 hits.

Went with the rookie card, with the nice gold cup.

100. 1962 Topps #317 Musial Plays 21st Season

# 2
November 21

Ken Griffey, Jr. - HOF - 83.8
Stan Musial - HOF - 128.2
Freddie Lindstrom - HOF - 28.4
Bobby Mathews - 55.1

Two major HOFers in Griffey and Musial, supplemented by a third, plus a 297 game winner. Hard to ignore.

Musial is in a tight race with Ted Williams as the best hitter ever, in my view. He hit a mere .331 for his career, and only hit 475 home runs. Seven batting titles. 3630 hits. 3 MVPs. Legend.

Oldest card of him I have, and pretty cool.

101. 1931 W517 #24 Freddy Lindstrom

# 2
November 21

Ken Griffey, Jr. - HOF - 83.8
Stan Musial - HOF - 128.2
Freddie Lindstrom - HOF - 28.4
Bobby Mathews - 55.1

Two major HOFers in Griffey and Musial, supplemented by a third, plus a 297 game winner. Hard to ignore.

Ok, never heard of him, but he's in the Hall and has a .311 career average.

This looks like a very cool card...that I do not have.

102. 1887 Kalamazoo Bats (N690) #NNO Bobby Mathews

# 2
November 21

Ken Griffey, Jr. - HOF - 83.8
Stan Musial - HOF - 128.2
Freddie Lindstrom - HOF - 28.4
Bobby Mathews - 55.1

Two major HOFers in Griffey and Musial, supplemented by a third, plus a 297 game winner. Hard to ignore.

Mathews won 297 freaking games in the late 1800s.

Boy, would I love to have this card.

First of all great idea for a list.

Okay, 3 Hall of Famers for #1 date. Nice and I agree with that selection, but May 18th should be higher on your list with two stud HOFers in Reggie and Brooks. In my recollection no one's hit better in the off-season than Mr. October in a different era where pitching at a batter was part of the game, and 3rd base was not a place to hit when Robinson was there.

You could well be right. I debated moving that up. And I might tweak it later. Thanks for the input.

Started on it, but now you have it closed for editing. Fun list.  I assure you I will read the whole thing very soon.

Ok. First adjustment made. Moved Reggie and Brooks up a notch or two.

When I got to Musial/Griffey, I couldn't imagine how you would top that. You did.  Nice work on this list. I enjoyed it a lot.

I love that my birthday is on the list at #11.

Great list. Can't argue with your #1. Agree with the move up of Reggie & Brooks. I'm left somewhat envious of your "Haves" and now I have a bunch more cards to add to my "Wants".

Noticed around card number 60 that Halliday hasn't been made a HOF yet

Would you believe you are not the only crazy person to do a list like this?  I did almost the same exact thing.  Took me 18 months to complete it.  But I took it a step further, I looked at each date, focused on their career WAR, and put together a 25 man roster, the starting 8, a DH, 5 bench players, 5 starting pitchers, 6 relievers.  And when i was all done and looked at the spreadsheet, the best team is....drum roll please...November 26th.  This team did not crack your top 25.  Many other dates have much better top 3,4,5 players, but this team is balanced.  Check it out.
