Bingo. My thoughts as well. For all we know, some players didn't participate. Can't prove it, but they know. They all know if they did or didn't. And these punishments will go down in history. People who study the game 50 years from now will say it's a tainted title. Those guys on that roster have to live and play with that for the rest of their lives
I'm with Splinter on this one.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

I think Manfred did the right thing here. And I'm sure if there was a way to force the Astros to "unwin" the 2017 World Series, Manfred would make that happen. It's likely that going forward, the Astros 2017 WS "win" will be regarded in the same way as the White Sox 1919 World Series "win" (the infamous Black Sox scandal). The integrity of the game is paramount.
Now comes word that the Astros have fired their GM and Manager...

The White Sox didn't win in 1919.....

And personally, I think not that many years from now, people will remember that "cheating" was done (not just by the Astros but by many other teams such as the Red Sox) but that the title will not remain tainted. They were the best team in 2017 and not by cheating their way there. My opinion.
Many other sports titles would have to be stripped if professional sports started doing this in retrospect.

I'm with you on this and my team was one of the 2 winners. Another thought is that the pitchers and fielders still need to do their part to win. Yeah, the batters may have had a leg up, but if the pitchers stink it up or the defense is lax then it turns into a softball game. Doesn't justify the behavior though, sign stealing is as old as the game itself. Teams were warned after the Sox issue in '17 so something this harsh was coming. Players will find another way though....

Astros won on the road. The cheating was done at home.
Big difference in throwing a series to winning one.

As a Red Sox fan, it scares me that I am thinking this, but I am disappointed in this punishment because the players got off without so much as a slap on the wrist. We're not talking about a bunch of kids being led astray. These are grown men who knew what they were doing was wrong. I'm surprised I haven't heard one word yet suggesting Altuve's MVP is tainted, yet it's obvious now that he directed benefited from this. They all did, but MLB decided not to get the Player's Association riled up and punished the higher ups instead.
As far as the Red Sox go, I'm guessing it's sayonara Cora, but not much else. Maybe Dombrowski, who's no longer with the team, gets suspended...

Ya think the Red Sox have had something in the works for a few months in case Cora is suspended?
