This raise is only an extra $14/week. It's not my smallest or largest though. I'm pretty sure my smallest raises with any company (including this one) was a quarter per hour. My largest ones were all $1/hour, including twice with this company. One place I worked back in 1998 was going to jump my pay by $2.50/hour to go from temp to regular employee. I refused and quit b/c I hated the job and got another job somewhere else at the same time. I was filing paperwork for an insurance company. That was probably the worst job I've ever had and definitely the most boring one! I can not do boring jobs, no matter what they pay. I quit working for General Electric JUST b/c the job was so boring. I couldn't take it anymore after only a few months, plus I was still working for my current company then too. If we had today's smartphones back then, I might could have made it through a few hours alone and with nothing to do at GE. Just sitting around watching the clock tick is unbearable to me, even if I'm getting paid for it.

Good news! I am currently enjoying a few adult beverages at a sports bar in Beloit, Wisconsin. Why? Because my best friend from college (and a former teammate) gets off work at midnight. We decided it had been too long, and since we both have this weekend free, I drove up this evening from southwest Michigan. I look forward to a Saturday full of Army and Iowa football (Army for me, Iowa for him), and maybe a little NFL action Sunday before heading home.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Congrats on the raise ... I also had a .25/hr bump this year as well. Always good to see that little bit extra at the end of the week and often it's just the recognition that counts and not so much the actual monetary factor.
Also Billy, 80k ... I'd have to scan my whole collection TWICE and still then I'd be a mile short. That's an amazing # of scans.

I've held off until we were sure we had good news. My wife requires a series of four separate eye operations (two on each eye). To say she was a nervous wreck about the first operation would be an understatement. I can understand; just thinking about an operation on my eye gives me the willies. The first operation was a success. She can't believe how easy it went and is pretty sure the next three will be less nerve racking.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Glad to hear it went well and hope the next three do also. Like you (and probably a whole lot of others) someone doing anything with my eyes gives me the shakes.

spazmatastic I didn't mean to sound like I was putting down the amount you received for a raise. Almost any raise is a good one. Except the 5 cents an hour I got once. My first job was milking cows for $1.75 an hour. I got a .25 cent raise. I loved the job too. Cows are so funny dumb.
C2cigars I'm sorry to hear that your wife needs surgery on both eyes. Not only once but twice on each eye. I'd be scared too. Let us know how she makes out after each one. I don't think I ever stopped being scared when all the times my wife had to go into the hospital.

Dave, I totally didn't think that way from your first response! I also didn't mean to make you think that I did with my last response. I love my job, the freedom it gives me, and the fact that I can only be late for work in my own eyes. I can never be late for work without not showing up at all! I've done many types of jobs in my life and most were not as acceptable as the job I have now.
I can't imagine milking cows! I mean, I can, but not with me doing it myself. I have literally never touched a cow or really any other big animals either. Actually, I did hold a deer steady a couple of times for my step-father to clean it out (to use nice words for the process). Venison is so delicious, but to see how it becomes that is not pleasant. I am a country-type of guy, but not a hunter, fisher, farmer or meat processor. I grow my own veggies, but I'm not a hunter or a fisher. I CAN do those things if I need to, but I really don't want to do them. I really don't like dealing with animals in many ways. I don't even like dealing with humans when it comes to certain issues. To tie in with C2C's issues with his wife, I can't possibly do anything to help someone with eye issues!
Chuck, I truly hope she makes a speedy recovery after each issue is dealt with!
My Grandfather needs eyedrops every 4 hours and I CAN NOT do that for him! I can't even put eyedrops in my own eyes, much less someone else's eyes. That is my freak-factor there! I just can't do it for myself or anyone else. I'm fine with making sure he eats 3 meals a day and giving him his med's each night. But the 2 things I won't do for him are eyedrops and a bath!!!

Her recovery requires three different eyedrops every 2 hours, eight times a day. She's one of those "impossible to get drops in" types.

I'm glad you didn't take my responce the wrong way. I took care of my wife for 30 years. I know 99.9 % of men or husbands wouldn't have done what we went throught. I've never wanted to be a nurse or doctor. My wife had a presonal care attendant. I know her PCA was more gental than I was. I tried. I don't have the mind set to be a personal care attendant for someone other than my wife.
I've never had to slaughter an animal. But I've been there when it was done. I've shoveled cow poo and got bit by a horse while shoveling horse poo. She didn't do that again.

My friend in AUS had double retina(?) replacement surgury. Not sure what part can be harvested and replaced. Anyways I feel for your wife Chuck and hope the recovery is as easy as the procedure!
