Just tried to charge me 11.50 to mail an envelope with 5 cards in it.
And then told me I couldn't have it back when I said no, since I had 'transferred it to post office control' when I passed it to them.
Told them they were free to call police on me and took it back and left.

Total BS. That's why I weigh at home and drop it in a mail box.

Just a ridiculous story. I always use the postal machine because of issues and attitudes like this.
Thanks for risking jailtime to get my cards back. :)

5 cards to the States? PWE reinforced with cereal boxboard, $1.30 stamp on it and drop it in the mail box. The only trades I have to visit an outlet for are the large irregular mail ones of 100-150 cards. Though I know what the postage will be, I can't do it online.
I have access to several post outlets in my area. I use 2 of them exclusively because I get the service I expect. I usually tell them how much it will be and I have yet to have them disagree. Meanwhile, at one outlet the old guy is known at the other outlets to be one of the rudest individuals around.

Find a post office you like and stick with it. I use the same two post offices. I pass 3 other post offices in route to one of them and I pass 2 in route to the other. It's a shame there's no consistency with different USPS locations.

So I will just ignore the orange alert that came up on my phone about some guy with an unstamped letter who is on the run. I got your back.

I hate putting stuff into a mailbox just due to the risk of it getting wet, damaged etc and to minimize the handling etc.
But the clown show at the post office is just too much. I especially loved being told once I hand something to a clerk it is property of the post office so my choices were to pay for it to be shipped or have it opened, checked for evidence of a possible crime and then destroyed.
I'd love to see the law that transfers ownership for electing not to purchase a service.

I had a couple of low SN#'d cards that the post office delivered to the wrong house.and make as "delivered." When I tried to find out where they were, the post office tells me they know which house they were delivered and sent a couple of messages to the residents but they never responded. And they refused to tell me which house it was.

And the number of cards they have just lost over the last year is insane. THREE 1/1s included! I've started notating on here when a SN#d card gets lost with the serial number and when it was lost and leave it as "in-transit."

Anything rigid cannot go as lettermail from Canada to the US, so then it becomes a small packet. So if you are sending a cards in top loaders, really going hard with the rigid cardboard protectors, or using a bubble mailer, there's a chance the postal clerk will do their job and charge you as a small packet and not by letter.
Unless they already put the postage on the letter, I can't see how they can claim it's their property. They should have made the price clear to you before putting postage on it. Also, I am pretty sure they can still cancel or refund after the postage was put on. So I am at a loss for words on that part.
