The other flip side is if it cost approximately. 30 cents per card to buy it. If people see a loss of instant capital with card values and see potential wrong prices it can do harm to hobby.
If this is why people may stop paying stupid prices for cards, then this is a win-win. I don't see any harm to the hobby in this happening.
Personally, $0.18 is still too high for commons but it is more realistic than some of the prices we have seen entered, e.g. $1 for a 1989 Fleer common card. After all, someone on here sells cards for $0.10. I had said it before in another pricing thread, I wish the only pricing we would see is on cards that are not commons.

Is it actually a bad thing if people's collection value (for whatever that term is "worth" - pun intended) goes down?
What is the real value in having a bunch of common cards listed including prices they are highly unlikely to ever sell at? It is really just providing a false sense of value.
From a personal point of view I am much more interested in the lowest prices cards sell for rather than the highest.
This is because it seems more realistic to me than hoping for a one off high point. I like this as both a buyer - so I can make sure I am not overpaying - and a seller - so I can ensure I am not over pricing and actually achieve a sale.
Not that I am relying solely on this site for pricing data as providing pricing is not its primary function. However, for some people it is obviously important and valuable.

I do not think .18 cents to a .25 is a unreasonable price/value for a common . However the cards of today are not those of the past.
Production cost have risen, cost of licenses, and more. Quality has also risen so once again so has cost and demand.
Some common values might be higher based on premium sets in my view.
But prices, supplies and demand never stay constant.
I would think the overall market cap in sports cards is week. Commons need to have a set base value to be able to better understand other charts and stats for some.

I guess the question that needs to be asked is if you are targeting a specific card, how much do you end up paying at card shows? I discount bulk sales because anything will be cheaper if you buy bulk, I'm talking you picking the specific cards you want.
The cheapest I've seen at any card shows in the past several years has been 10 cents and usually they have been picked over a half dozen times before many people can even make it to a show in a remote location. Even a remotely popular player could get the card up to .25 cents regardless of the year and set.

I 100% agree and if you can get lucky and get some bulk buys, Awesome.
The best thing to do is buy up and eat up good cheap bulk. Less floating in market better for hobby and usually the one who holds it.

In reality:
Buyers will only pay what they think the card is worth to them, no matter what the seller shows them. (e-Bay .99)
The sellers will only sell for what they need out of the card no matter what the buyer shows him. (Sportlot .18)
Traders I think give more leeway on prices.
Way to many dealers/resellers even other collectors of cards that have cards that I'm interested in just let the cards set in their warehouse/closet. (Not worth their time) As those types of cards do not make them the fast and big buck or get cards they want in trades. Without this site how many collectors would be collecting all the Var? This site and Sportlots are the only sites that have the junk era cards.
You are right Way to many cards not seeing the light of day. So the supply is down and demand is there so seller sets his price.
So Do I buy the card for a $1 or wait and try to find it for less then $1.00 even thou I think it is worth .18?

I completely agree with you and everybody who mentioned that .18 is a perfectly reasonable price for a common.
But when I see 6 reports from sportlots at 0.18 on a TOPPS UPDATE MIKE TROUT ROOKIE ( even though the median price is still $710) I start to question the system a little bit.
In fact, 0.18 for cards from the junk wax era and even some donruss base from now may be an overstatement still, but the fact that I see 1 report let alone 6 reports at 0.18 for one of the most iconic cards in baseball/trading card history, I start to wonder if this really benefits the pricing like the partnership intended.

What is so annoying about them? $.18 is the lowest price that a card can be sold for on Sportlots. Essentially, if you see a card that is valued at $.18, it is almost always a common card, or close to it.

My eBay store.- Be sure to check it out! FOR SALE/TRADE: View my profile for details! If there's a certain player you want, ask me about them, I'll probably have a card of their's that I'm willing to trade but haven't marked on my FS/T list. For more specific info, visit profile or message me.

To be fair, there are 10 reports of it being sold for 18 cents. However you leave something very important out- it last sold for 18 cents April 9th, 2012. Its been 10 years. It's not going to knock the medium price down for the current price. It is showing the historic rise (and possibly eventually- fall) of a card. I like to have that kind of data handy.
I get some of the complaints, but the fact is this site has worked out an agreement with Sportlots and is beginning to implement those agreements. I isn't adding data from other sites like COMC and Ebay because there is no deal between the two sites. However if people are complaining already about THIS agreement, then I see no reason why Admin would want to even consider looking at potential partnerships with other sites. Lets give this time to breathe a bit before calling this a terrible idea.
Personally I like that there is now more historical data at our disposal. Cards that have constantly changing prices won't be affected too much because people will continue to input their own prices they find cards sell for. The common cards will be affected more, but a 5 or 10 cent card getting an 18 cent valuation isn't near as bad as a random user adding a price of like 25 bucks because someone was foolish enough to pay that much for a card. This will balance out those random prices that are flukes. It will also give users of this site the chance to see if cards are starting to rise or fall in value which should be helpful to those who sell cards. I'm really excited to see when data from the non-sports cards start to sell on Sportslots which while won't have historical data, will still give a glimpse at more sell prices.
