For some unknown reason, Bert Jones did not have a card that year
These were the first packs I ever opened. I don't remember much other than I had OJ Simpson, Roosevelt Leaks and Bert Jones! I glued them all into a notebook. Guessing I probably had about 10 packs worth.
This is the set that introduced me to Topps football. The borders, colors which complemented the photos, and capital letter team names create a simple yet entertaining design.

I have no idea...memory is shot....but I'll say this was the first pack that I ever ripped and also my first year of collecting Tony Dorsett cards. A kid in the playground had the Dorsett rookie and I had to have it. I think my collection dwindled to about nothing after trading him for that Dorsett card. I'm sure I had my white #33 jersey on as I traded for it.

This is probably my least favorite of pre-1980 Topps football sets. As a kid I was a little disappointed in this offering when it first came out. I thought the photography was not as personal as previous sets and the front design was boring.

This was the first pack that I ever ripped and also my first year of Pee Wee football. I'm quite sure that it was 50% about the cards and 50% about the gum.
This was the first set we ever bought/opened packs; in 1981, 5 for 1 dollar. |
