Chapter Three: “To Hab or Hab Not?”
I had already run enough laps around the convention floor to have seen most of the private dealer tables. So, I decided to focus on the corporate vendors, looking for more free stuff to add to my hoard of daily check-in goodie bags.
Score was offering an exchange card of their poster boy Alexandre Daigle’s RC for their upcoming 1993-94 set. Meanwhile, other smaller companies had stacks of promos & samples available for the taking. Leaf even set up a photo booth for making custom hockey cards.
You were able to put on a helmet and jersey, then pose for a photo card framed in the style of 1993-94 Leaf with the title “Most Valuable Player”. While the design on the front of the card was up to date, the fake stats on the back were dated 1990-91. I suppose my MVP days were already behind me, at the far-too-young age of only 23.
The choice of jerseys was limited to the Original Six, so no Devils sweater to don. It should go without saying that I wouldn’t touch the Rangers (even being a year prior to Messier’s Conference Finals game 7 “promise”), and I had no interest in the Red Wings (not knowing it was only two years prior to the Stanley Cup “sweep”). As for the Blackhawks & Maple Leafs, I figured they were the most popular due to geographic proximity, therefore too “game-worn” for my taste. So, I was left with the Bruins or the Canadiens.
If you choose to wear the Boston sweater, turn to page 6.
If you choose to wear the Montreal sweater, turn to page 24.
