Forgot about Indianpolis, but I have heard that more high schools are considering changing their names. I can't think of any around here with Indians as a name but remember a few years ago a couple did.
I'm still in the mindset of naming sports teams in the U.S. like they do soccer teams in Europe. Cleveland United or something I could stand behind. Then again the Cleveland Indians aren't my favorite baseball team, so I am indifferent about a name change. I can't think of a team I root for that would have to consider a name change (Kansas City Chiefs aren't named after Native Americans, they are named after a former mayor).

I vote that they change the name to Cleveland Indians.
As a life long Tribe fan, anything else will not ever be the same...

Youre comment just got me thinking, I wouldnt say I disagree with you. It does occur to me that if a community wants a statue removed/name change the people should be the ones behind it and not just the government or by some entity (not necessarily from the community) that is pressing change baecause thats what they believe/want. I guess Im thinking along the lines that the apparent consensus form Native Americans was that Washingtons team name wasnt an issue, but sponsors were gonna pull out if it wasnt addressed (so $$ and not because the community wanted/didnt want change?) You make a good point about the British History, but something to also consider is that the Tory's supported the crown and it makes me curious if their opinions were silenced in regards to removing statues. Did they leave? were they condemned? or were they allowed to have their opinion (1A?) Been more than one study that investigated the history of a city name (a very "progressive" city at that, spending $$ to do it) Found a dark history, but decided that a name change was too expensive for an entire city...what exactly did it accomplish other than wasting taxpayer money? Just my thoughts really, which arent intended to argue/instigate or rile anyone up

If that is indeed a fact, I hope we have evolved past that. Murder anyone with a different opinion??? (May be justified if they acted against the "rebels", but just having an opinion/beliefs? yikes)

You know we haven't evolved past that. Look at recent history, heck the daily news, to know that isn't the case.....

The town Historical Society in my home town is in the former home of a Torie which also served as a shop. They burned the shop portion and basically told him that if he didn't leave the house portion would be next with him in it. He moved to Canada. He wasn't a good guy by any means. The Historical Society is collecting funds to excavate and discover the slave cemetery in what was originally his back yard. This is in New York mind you.

Then he probably moved to sandyrustys backyard. That is what his area is well known for. Well, besides that he lives there!
