Not only did we put the cards on our bike spokes, we also played games with them.  We flipped them calling out "match" or "don't match" which was not healthy for cards.  We also played toss them to a wall, usually ouside on concrete.   First person to get one to stand up against the wall, won all the cards that were tossed.   Usually you started with worst cards first and try not to go into your pile of undamaged cards.

How much is a card worth? The lowest price the seller will take, from the highest a buyer will pay.    So if you have a $1 card and you can't find anybody to pay you $1, then that card not worth the dollar  I remember during the ROOKIE CRAZE years  monthly price guides were not accurate a week after they hit stores.  What some people paid for a MT rookie card I was paying for a VG or VG-EX T-206's  So who made out better?  VG-EX T206 Cobb Bat off shoulder as an example

That makes sense if you are in this only as abusiness for selling. I am a collector and a trader only so my 5000+ common cards of these sets remains in my pile.  Surprisingly,every so often someone does ask for one or two in trade. Knowing how difficult it is to find these commons from dealers (they could not be bothered with them), I am happy to give fellow members the opportunity to acquire their teams, finish their sets,etc.

This is the bulk of my collection because that's when I returned to buying cards from racks to boxes. It lasted only those few years from 89-92, thus my Trade List is comprised of much of that.

Anyway, I agree that if one uses the price list to trade, things need to be updated. I have yet to find any cards being sold for $0.05. Check Sportlots and the starting price is $0.18. Amazon $0.35. Beckett Marketplace $0.25. Ebay $0.99.

Now I'm biting my own hand because as I'm collecting my Astros team sets, many cards still fall in this era, I may be seeing the end of getting two-for-one in trades if pricing is updated.

I also agree that the value means nothing to me when I own a card I wish to keep. And I've been blessed immensely by some who trade based on each other's needs with some consideration for price at times, but not based solely on that.
