I had the honor of meeting him in 2014 when he was Grand Marshall of the Rose Parade. Inside I was screaming like the Beatles were on stage. So many wonderful memories of listening to him on the transistor at the Stadium. I'm just devastated

Was watching the Angels game and they told us the news between innings. VERY sad to hear the news. The legend will be missed. You guys are lucky you had the honor of meeting him in person.

Very sad to see him go. Without a doubt the greatest announcer ever...the perfect blend of voice, knowledge, respect for the game and clear insight into the balance of commentary and letting the game speak for itself. People still try to copy him but fail miserably, particulary ones that try not to be "homers" (Its said Vin was not a "homer") but go overboard by being too neutral. You could always tell that Vin loved the Dodgers and wanted them to win.
To this day my most prized sports possession I have is a baseball autographed by him that I was lucky enough to get in the early 1990's at Dodgertown in Vero Beach (which by the way was the best Spring Training site on earth until the Dodgers decided to trash tradition and leave). I was walking to my seats with my father before the game and bumped into Vin who was on his way to the broadcast booth. Vin took the time to chat with us briefly and sign the ball. Very nice guy and the epitomy of a gentleman.

Mr. Scully was there for two of the most outstanding and memorable calls of my baseball childhood:
(1) Mookie Wilson's epic at-bat in the 1986 World Series, Game 6
(2) Kirk Gibson's game-winning home run in the 1988 World Series, Game 1
The way he called the action, the way he built suspense leading up to the action, and the way he would also allow moments for the viewer to just listen to the sounds of the game—it was all masterful.
Looking forward to more personal memories of Mr. Scully shared in this thread.

As they say: "it comes in three." This past 7 days has been tough with 3 legends passing. RIP to all three.
First Nichelle Nichols - (12/28/32 - 7/30/22) age 89+
Second Bill Russell - (2/12/34 - 7/31/22) age 88+
Third Vin Scully - (11/29/27 - 8/2/22) - age 94+

I grew up listening to Vin Scully. I have many fround memories of him. To me he will always be the best sports broadcaster ever. My favorite call of his was his call of Kirk Gibson's homerun in the 1988 World Series. He will be deeply missed. RIP Vin Scully.

I was trying to think of a Mount Rushmore of announcers, but once you put Vin Scully on it, you realize he deserves the monument to himself. Truly the GOAT.
