Despite everything that tried to stop it from happening, my sister got married today! It wasn't the grand wedding they had been planning for about a year, but it did happen. They found a small historic church somewhat close to their house that was available. It was only 10 of us, the pastor and the photographer. The 10 of us live in only 3 houses so we are all pretty close daily anyway. The virus risk factor was very low. It was my mother, brother, grandfather and I from here; my sister, her 2 children and her now-husband; and then my sister's best friend and her oldest son. With it being so small, everyone played at least a small role in the ceremony. My brother and I walked her down the aisle and gave her away.
They leave for their honeymoon in the morning. Her children and dog are staying with us until they get back, so it's going to be a crazy week here. The cabin in the mountains near Gatlinburg, TN was still reserved and accepting customers. They just can't go to all the stuff they planned since most of that stuff is closed for now. At least they still get to spend a week alone in the mountains in a very nice cabin with a personal pool and hot tub and a billiards table.
I'm still curious about the church. It has a Historic Site sign, but it doesn't tell when it was built. I checked out the very small graveyard beside it (along with my niece and nephew) and the oldest date of death we could read was 1866 and the most recent was 1904! All of those buried there were from the same family and some who married into it with only 3 last names on the headstones. It was very interesting. The church is purely for weddings. It has a few outdoor spots for scenic photographs ( a garden, a gazebo and a walk-under trellis). The building is just the chapel with about 20 pews, a dressing room for the bride, a room for photographing the bride and her family before the ceremony, a single restroom and a room for the pastor's paperwork/bible/etc.. Also, the sign in front of the building says "The perfect place to say "I DO"." I'd have to agree with that.
