I recently introduced a 9 year old grandson of a good friend to TCDB, got him set up with Username and password and he started entering his cards in today.

I'm getting negative feedback from his family because of the Risque advertisements. 

Do i remember there was an option to pay a fee to use the site that would silence the ad's?

Yes. You can pay $5 monthly to go ad-free. I've been doing it for a couple years now. More than worth it.

Are you talking about ads or do you mean the New Galleries where currently all 5 are occupied by 2015 Stellar Playboy Centerfold Updates which can be clicked and galleries of nudes can be visualized by minors?

Those galleries and pages of centerfolds and such are inaccessible to those of us without a paid subscription. The system doesn't block members from using risque avatars, though, and those are viewed anytime one runs into them in forum posts or on their profile page.

I'm not sure if this is correct. I don't have a paid subscription and can see mature content. I don't know if it's a function of user level or not but there is a setting to enable/disable mature content:

Profile –> Settings –> Site –> Show Mature Content (Y/N)

But, apparently per other posts, once an attempt to access such material you must acknowledge your age and then accessibility is given if you have certain number of points. So, with both a paid subscription one can see them, and there is a process with free access, too.

Yes I mentioned this in the past as it being a problem. There needs to be a G for all General audiences (for under 16) and a way for the site to know a user is a minor.

A said website is responsible for catering to it's users under 16 and the ads they see.

I agree, Statsnerd, however, I don't believe there is consensus within the legal realm with what is considered obscene. I don't know what cards are available on TCDB, but I would assume that it's measures to prevent viewing of adult content meet the criteria to not be considered as illegal.

That just isn't true. I don't have a paid subscription and I was able to enter any of the 5 galleries last night without proving I was of age. I was able to view full frontal nudity, including unshaven female genitalia, without proof of age. I'm a 67 year old retired gynecologist, so it wasn't something I haven't seen before, but I don't want minors to have unfettered access to that material.

The original post referred to advertisements. It’s in the post title. OP was not referring to the Playboy cards. TCDB has no control over the advertisements displayed. You can pay for an ad-free experience with a minimum monthly donation of $5.00.

The sets flagged as “Adult” or “Mature Content” are not visible to those who have not selected the “Mature Content” on the Permissions tab. If you *have* selected this, it means you have enough points and permissions to gain access, and you have verified that you are at least 18 years of age. I just logged out, went to the “New Galleries”, and was unable to see the sample image or any of the images in the set.

Once you select the “Mature Content” permission, there is an option on your profile settings to turn it on and off. If you don’t have Mature Content enabled, you will not see the setting to turn it on or off.
