UGH. For my Project Purge effort for my collection. I am trying to better organize my traders and get them onto the database in my "Traders and/or For Sale" trade list. A problem I am coming across is that there are many cards that I didn't think I had even put into my collection here when I first got them but apparently I had for many cards. Especially for some insert cards. This means that my collection will show I have a card, but that card will physically be in one of my piles or boxes of cards to trade/sell and that card will also be showing up on my trade list as I go through the cards physically.
The trade list is taking priority right now.
Looks like for many of the modern confusing years I will have to do a total scrubbing of my main collection, but at a later date. I have tons of cards already logged in here in my collection and some of them are difficult to find at first.Draft/Prospect versions of a set and multi-sport sets are driving me nuts. Then there is the dilemma when the retail version of a base card is listed as a parallel instead of the dang base (and the hobby serial numbered version is listed as the base).
Anyway at least the cards that are on my trade list in my Traders and/or For Sale collection I know are ready to go out the door. I recently had to remove some cards from my trade list because I had included them into some Purge team packages I just sent out.

I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies). My Trade List is very much a work in progress CaptKirk42s Trading Card Blog Curly W Cards Strive For '65 YouTube klandersen42

Ugh the pain of needing organization. I have a fear this is on my future.

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

I was there about a year after I joined the site. I could not tell what had been entered, what was in my collection and what was for trade. I finally asked Admin to delete my whole baseball collection off the site so I could start over (he did ask for me to confirm as I had already entered thousands of cards).
I then restarted entering cards after developing a better system for the physical collection. The biggest issue was that once a card was entered, it was separated from all others not entered. If it was a keeper, it went to where my collection was to be kept; if it was a trader, it went in the trader boxes. I sorted everything in the order that it appears when looking for cards on the site. This is good for both the collection and the traders to make things easier to find. When looking for a trader, I know that if I find the next card in a transaction, I have passed the one I am looking for. I agree with you that all those multiple sets, parallels and especially sets that were divided up into add-ons to multiple other base sets are the worst (Upper Deck being the main offender for this).
Since I have organized this way, things are just so much easier to locate and the stress / frustration levels have almost disappeared. After all, it is a hobby that should help relax a person, not raise the blood pressure.

i'm actually in the middle of doing a re-org myself... had started a collection of traders, but along the way, some cards made it there and some didnt, thus the mess was created. first i'm putting all the traders back into their respective sets, then going thru and verifying all my #'s match up to my excel sheets, then moving the confirmed correct sets into new collections that i set up that work better for the way i collect, and then the traders are getting moved back into my traders collection. Slow progress as i'm also trying to file away boxes of trades that i received but never put away ...

WOW! I don’t feel so crazy now. I did the same thing for different reasons. I feel I could find a Card in a Tennessee minute if you wanted to see it. I just wasn’t satisfied with the way I started.

When I first added my FST, I messed it up and had to go through one by one and check them all. So many cards, so little time!

After over 3 years of organizing and adding my collection here, I have less than 10k cards to sort and add here. The good news is that baseball is a majority of that and it is sorted by year already, just need to sort them by set and number.

I'm doing a complete re-organization and re-entering of my entire collection into the site. My collection is nowhere near as big as some others, around 70,000 cards I estimate, but it's a process that's taken me since November, 2023. I've entered my collection, my wantlist, and now doing my FST cards. Then I have to put them all away, as my basement is literally covered with piles of cards on surfaces.. and my kids would love to get access again to the air hockey table!
