Would you rather get 50 cards you need for your collection by trade or buy a lot for 100 dollars that have 800 cards and only getting 50 cards?

Before I was introduced to this website, I bought 800 cards of Yankees for 80 bucks, and I only need about 200 of them, it kinda sucks that I have all these Yankees cards now

Use the duplicates to trade for cards you don't have.
It varies, as an answer to the original question. I like getting lots of mixed cards, but as my collection has progressed the lots usually return fewer and fewer new cards. Before repacks disappeared, I was happy if I got 8 new cards out of 100 card repacks for the NBA, considering that a good ratio.
Getting a batch to get closer or finish off a set is an amazing feeling too though.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. nightowl_80,
I think I'd rather obtain the 50 cards through trades. I like the feeling of putting cards that I don't want/need into the hands of another collector that will appreciate them. Also, it gives me a chance to meet other collectors and network my collecting interests with theirs. There's some pretty cool folks on here! I've been on both sides of this. When I first joined the site, another member offered to send me about 200 Orioles cards for the price of the postage. Due to outside circumstances, that deal fell through. However, I ended up getting most of those 200 cards through trading over the next few months and I got to meet some other collectors along the way. I think I'd rather trade.
BUT.
When you buy a large lot of cards, it's like an investment and gives you something trade off for the cards you really do want.

HAPPY COLLECTING!!! - Baltimore Orioles, Washington Capitals, Baltimore Ravens, and a few Baltimore Colts.
- 1954-2024 Topps baseball sets, including updates. I'm on a mission to complete Topps sets, so no trade is too large! Here is my Topps Set Completion Status List.
- I have 50,900+ different cards listed for trade (I don't list multiples).

The 50 cards by trade. I already have way way too many unwanted cards from buys like the one in the original question. Plus there have been many times when I have gotten a duplicate of a card I didn't realize I already had but thought I needed.

I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies). My Trade List is very much a work in progress CaptKirk42s Trading Card Blog Curly W Cards Strive For '65 YouTube klandersen42

It all depends on the 800 cards...You can always sell or trade the duplicates

I would go for the 50 cards I need. (Trading or buying) Years ago I did purchased large lots of my Cornhuskers. I stopped when the % of cards I needed got low. It got to 3% or lower when I stopped.

Depends on what I'm trading for the 50 cards. If its all off my Trade List, then get 50 cards in a trade.
