Good thing ALL of TCDb images are scans of cards that our members own and no images were uploaded from other sites.  Keeps us honest!

been a wile since anyone has posted on here was wondering if there where any new updates?

Along time ago I used to be a member of a forum called PhotoSIG. Where I would post photos to be reviewed by fellow members and also review their images. This forum no longer exists. However, there were several discussions involving the “borrowing” without permission several members images by advertising firms and websites without compensation. In those discussions there was made mention of a website called “TinEye”. While commercial users would need to subscribe and pay a fee, private individuals, read collectors, can use for free.

This software scans the internet for images you have up-loaded and shows if and where they have been copied.

Also note the following.

1. As for the images list on TCDb since the images a “jeg” they are still photographs.
2. Images that are uploaded are attributed to the person that contributed them to the website. See “Contributors.” Therefore, there is reference to the ownership of that image.

Just thought I would add my “two cents” to the discussion.

I haven't read this entire forum, but get the gist of BuySportsCards having scrubbed images from here.  I know TCDB has worked with other companies for checklists in the past, as TCDB partnered with Sportlots for some Non-Sports Checklists when Sportlots started offering them.  I'm not sure if there was any financial considerations one way or the other, but Sportlots mentioned it when they sent out their newsletter talking about their expansion into Non-Sports.

Honestly, I don't care one way or the other, I'm just glad TCDB is preserving the images, since some of the stuff is old and rare.  ...and I hope they are getting something out of the deal.  I don't have a ton on here, but I've filled in a few gaps on oddball things.  Hopefully, TCDB will continue to be a great caretaker of these images and they are already a great resource.

Actually, it was the other way around - sportlots were able to add the non-sport checklists because they got them from TCDB.

Yes, that is how I understood it, but maybe it didn't come across that way in my post... Sportlots worked with TCDB to use the pre-existing TCDB checklists... so that they(Sportlots) could expand into the Non-Sport offerings.

Again, hoping that the TCDB/Sportlots relationship is beneficial to TCDB ... and same with BuySportsCards, if they are in fact getting images from here.  Either way, anyone who has contributed images to TCDB, has just scanned and edited something that they didn't create ... so personally, I don't mind if my images, of something I also didn't make, get used to further the hobby.

To a certain extent it is good for the sports community so it adds value long term.

In exchange for non-sport checklists, TCDB got sales data from Sportlots. BuySportsCards stole checklists and images from TCDB, there's no partnership there.

Without reading all 10 pages of this forum I guess my rhetorical question would be:

How does a site who gets their entire database from its users claim to own anything? How does one “own” an image of a 1992 Topps baseball card?
