So what I mean:
If card A is sold for $10.50 with Free Shipping then the value of card A would be shown as $10.50
But if the same card is sold for $6.99 with $6.50 shipping then the card value would show at $6.99 This thought is incorrect as the true cost of the card is $13.49
The $13.49 with shipping added is the true cost/value of card not the $6.99. The intelligent person would know they must sell the card for $15.00 to get back the ROI
So how the sports card market comes to the price of said asset in my view needs to be rethinked on how the graphs work.

I'm gonna be the first one in a long line of people to be blunt and tell you this: stop. This debate happens every two and a half years and you're going to get every new member from that time span to come on here and give their opinion on if shipping costs should or should not be considered, and another 45 replies that add nothing but they want to tell you that "I don't use the pricing on this site because _________". And as soon as I read your post, my first thought was "oh no, not again..."
Search the Forums for "pricing", "shipping", or any combination of these topics. You will find incredibly divisive forum posts on this topic that date back multiple years. This debate has been going on since I joined the site, and probably well before. When Admin implemented the new pricing system a few years ago, which consisted of him taking a ton of member feedback and ideas, he set it up the way that you see - a way that acknowledges both sides of the debate. You'll never satisfy both sides completely. There's the price displayed, which is median without the shipping cost, but the shipping cost is also shown in the detailed submissions so people can factor that in for their own uses should they care to do so.
Like you acknowledged - people can draw reasonable assumptions. Just like any print magazine in the 1990s and 2000s, pricing using accumulated data is a guide. Not the end-all, be-all. Not a hard and fast rule that you must abide by. A guide. That's what is attempted to be accomplished with the pricing here.
-------------------------------
I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Your experience here will be much better if you remember...we're a DATABASE not a price guide. There are plenty of other sources for current and more accurate pricing.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Yes, our thinking is wrong. Thank God you showed up to point that out to us.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I never understand when people say item x sold on ebay for $100 but thats not the true price because there are ebay fees taken out of that so its actually lower

Lower as a seller, but higher as a buyer as the buyer pays that amount, plus shipping, plus tax (if applicable). So even a sale of 1 card has two different "prices" depending on which side of the sale you're on.

Well this seems like a touchy subject.
1. I am talking about the market in general and outside guides that show live prices.
2. I am not talking about tcdb or it's pricing system.
3. I am looking to have a conversation on ideas of how can we determine fair price in the board larger market in 2022.
4. "Our Thinking" was in the matter "as a whole in all of sports card land" not in tcdb land again
Also a forum is it not a place to have discussion and learn and put minds to work. Not a place to call out and bash out honest thoughts and conversation. When people read this it may keep others from signing up or asking questions.
Now let's hope we can get some good conversation about where to look and ideas that may be able to help guide ourselves to the best data.

It's basically a moot point here. We have too many other issues to sort out that it's not as valuable a use of our time as adding images, sorting IRs, etc. This question would be better suited for the Beckett message boards, I think. It's just not particularly relevant to the broader goal at TCDB.

I like the idea of a general conversation, as statsnerd seems to want to have, instead of the usual TCDB pricing issue discussion that has been discussed before. I agree with pugchump in that the Beckett forum might be a better place for this discussion if only because the collecting and trading aspect of this site doesn't delve into the prices of things as often (apart from the occasional balancing of an unbalanced trade discussion). It seems like it could be a round-and-round discussion no matter where it's held, though, as prices tend to fall into the 'what is one willing to pay for it' bucket no matter where things are bought or if it's shipped to them or not.
