My #1 PC's Hall of Fame Rookie card is worth $12 compared to no-name Single A relief pitcher cards worth 10x as much. My #2 is an injury waiting to happen, but I have 27 Autos so far. I cant afford the high end packs so I toil in the retail and flagship offerings. A 1/1 Yordan printing plate and a Vlad Jr. auto are my "prizes" after all these years. I have (19) 4,000 count boxes of junk wax GOLD to relax, sort and trade to those in want. I will continue to collect and sort through the names I remember as a kid.
Knowing they are worth more as kindling, than as an investment.

Collecting is a passion.
As value is only in the eyes of the beholder & those searching for the cards...
I don't care about value

Collecting is a joy. Sorting and organizing cards and building sets, or finding your favorite players, is a fun hobby and pastime. It's not about money. I don't care what the cards are worth. I don't care if they are easy to find. I don't give two sh*ts about relics, autos, parallels, inserts or - the best - five parallels TO a single insert. So, yes, I will collect now and always, regardless of what some douchebro in a backwards baseball cap regards as an investment stock.

I'm also one who collects for the "fun" of collecting not just the "value" of the card(s). To me that's the problem with card collecting today, a lot of people are in it for the value (investment) and that has driven up the prices considerately. Making collecting these days out of reach for those of us who don't have that kind of disposable income to spend on buying cards or boxes. From a hockey standpoint, the NHL has given Upper Deck exclusive rights to manufacture all of the hockey card products today and that gives them the monopoly on the sport. Because of this they can charge whatever they want with no competition. As long as people keep paying those prices they will continue to produce at that cost.

I collect for personal value, not monetary value, so I would still collect.

Wow Thank you to everyone who replied. This just confirms my thoughts that the hobby is in fine shape and that without us true collectors there is no hobby. I have always believed that us true collectors are more important to our local card shops and deals then the big spenders and investors. Without us there is no hobby so no investors and no big spenders. We may only spend $50 or less but we are what keeps the hobby alive.
