What is the polite amount of time to leave a proposal posted. I've had a few that I get no response on at all. I do check and the other party has accessed their account. My concern is that if someone doen't want to trade, that's fine, but if not I'd like to move on and find someone else to tade with.

I give people 5 days to respond, if they've been logging in everday.

I usually give it a week if no response myself.

Did you drop them a note ahead of time to guage their interest is a trade? Does it involve a lot of cards? Did you send a followup note to see if they have seen it or if they need more time with it?

I don't make offers, but as one who has received offers before, I try to reply within 5-7 days. Even logging in everyday, sometimes I miss seeing I have a message, so it does take a while. I get an email though but I don't check it everyday. I usually spend a day or two either considering the offer or seeing if I can access my cards before I respond. Even if I'm not interested, or can't make the trade, I will kindly respond to the offer.
I've noticed a lot of threads about trading lately, which is good for traders, but it also reminded me to turn off trades on here. It's not that I don't appreciate offers, but I am working on other non-card related stuff as of late so cards aren't my top priority right now.

7 days then I send a PM. 3 days after that with no responses I move on.
I also send a PM ahead of time, for a large proposal and ask if they would be interested in large trade. No point in doing all that work and getting nowhere.
I give it a week because we have no clue how many trades they are doing and receiving and You can get overwhelmed.
I also send a message if I receive a proposal and I know I can't get to it within a day. So they know I saw it and will get to it.

What is that behind you!?! Oh, It's me! Looking at the cards you have, That I want. :)

I just had one of around 200 cards each way. We had already communicated and I had countered to expand the trade as agreed. Then it went quiet for 3 days. Finally after asking if still interested, I got a response. The other member had been working long hours and the right priority to work was given. No problems here at all, but just to show that yes our lives do get busy and take us away from our hobby.
The ones I don't like are those where you never hear back even if it is to Decline but yet you see them actively trading before an dafter you send in yoru proposal. I had one I waited for 6 months just to see if I would ever get a response, before finally withdrawing it. Another member on the Do Not Trade With list. I simply don't understand poor etiquette, sorry.

Personally, if I see someone is logging in every day, I'll wait 4-5 days. If no response, then I just delete and move on...
