Basketball Cards (primarily from the mid 80s to the mid 2000s)

  • 1990-91 NBA Hoops - I came across a treasure trove of this set over a decade ago at a garage sale in the Ozark mountains. For only a ten dollar bill, numerous duplicates of rather uncommon cards were mine along with a few rare prints. At the moment, I'm finally cataloging all the cards from that find, and I'll post the final number here soon.
  • San Antonio Spurs - I've been cheering for the Spurs since the late 90s, and I was elated when the Twin Towers led the team to a climactic victory in 2003. In my youth, David Robinson, was my favorite player, and throughout the 2002-03 season, I appreciated how the stars were aligning to give The Admiral a proper sendoff.
  • Art Cards - I've always had an affinity for illustrated rendering of basketball scenes on a trading card. It just seems strangely alluring to have in one's possession a 2-inch painting of a sports scene.
  • Player Sets - I'm a fan of the big men in the paint like David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Patrick Ewing, Dikembe Mutombo, Hakeem Olajuwon, Robert Parish, and the like, but I'm open to collecting any major player from the 90s.

Multi-Sport

  • Backyard Sports - The cartoon kids from the Humongous Entertainment series have their own set of cards. There are even some cards of proffesional players as toon dudes. Maybe that'll take those big-shot, real guys down a few pegs.
  • Sports Illustrated for Kids - The insert sheets of nine perforated edge cards provide me with some additional nostalgia. Though I would take care to rip the cards from the sheet properly back in the day, many of my cards still ended up with unsightly gashes on the edges. I couldn't bring myself to discard my mistakes. Perhaps I'll find replacements and finish the set someday.

Non-Sport/Gaming

  • Comic/Television/Video Game - It's always interesting to see a multimedia attempt at marketing. I have regretted not grabbing a set of The Monkees trading cards, and I currently have an eclectic mess of Hulk, Tech Deck, Weird Al, and Sonic cards from my wide-eyed, younger days.
  • Novelty - Historical and informative cards intrigue me. For example, when visiting the courthouse in Harper Lee's hometown, I found that the gift shop was selling a small card set concerning the history of Monroeville. I may need to upload those if there not on here.
