Once i get all my collection entered here, I'll probably try to finish off the sets I'm closest to. I've never been a set builder, but lately the idea has intrigued me. Maybe the years of reading all you guys' forum posts finally got to me. But I think my main focus will be wrestling to begin with, as I'm probably 80%+ on all the modern Topps flagship sets. And most of those sets are only 110 cards anyway.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Set collecting is rewarding in its own way, but I don't discount the frustrations. Paying way too much cold hard cash for high numbers of players I don't actually care about can get pretty annoying. The completionist in me still likes getting full sets (by my definition), but I'm having a heck of a good time just buying random odd cards from the pre-Topps years. No pressure to get the whole set. Or I redefine what a "complete" set will be to me.

That's how I've always collected. Just get cards that amuse me for whatever reason. I doubt I would ever attempt an "old" set. But it would maybe be fun to finish ones that, just by buying packs, I've unintentionally come close to finishing. Or, I may do one, and decide it was a complete waste of time.

What I missed a 1965 Topps conversation? Currently on a Strive For '65 I'm at 45.5% Somewhere along my blog in a few places I explain my set build some. Long story short born in '65 so sort of been building the set since I was born. Back in 2014 I made a goal to COMPLETE the '65 set by my April Birthday and the beginning of the 2015 season which would be 50 years of the set. At the beginning of that declaration I only had 94 cards from the set. Well I didn't meet that goal. By April of 2015 I only had 100some cards don't recall exact numbers at that time. As of this post I have 270/598 (272/600)*
*There are two "variants" with a couple of the checklists. One more obvious of a difference than the other. The first one is one of the player's names on the back one variant has just his last name and the other has his first initial with a period and his last name. The other is a thick vs thin font of the checklist. The only difference I really saw is the space from the end of the list within it's border a single line space vs a double line space.

I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies). My Trade List is very much a work in progress CaptKirk42s Trading Card Blog Curly W Cards Strive For '65 YouTube klandersen42

For really old sets, I just buy a reprint set and replace them with originals one by one.

captkirk: You can always aim for 2065!
RTD: I remember that you do the reprint substitution thing. In fact I was just browing your collection at lunch today for some reason and saw your old reprint sets and briefly considered if I would take that approach with my T207 Cubs collection (3/10 complete). To each his own, but I decided that would just drive me crazy(er). (ps: Did you get your T207 from Deans Cards? A brief search saw no other source for such cards...)

I found the Brown Background reprints on Ebay. I don't remember who was selling them but I know it was from an individual that was reselling them.
