I don't recall it being part of the name on the card in the set. I think that is only to differentiate in the PID. About 2/3 of his cards have the P and the rest don't.

As long as the card is assigned to the correct PID, the Name field doesn't need to match the differentation. I saw a lot of "Greg Pepper Anthony" cards in checklists the last few weeks that didn't have "Pepper" on the cards. The FAQ covers what to use for the Name field.

Differentiators do not go in the name field.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Thanks Chuck. Now that answers my question. I wonder if Admin (or anyone else) knows an easy way to amend all of his cards in one swoop? At least 2/3 of them are anotated with the (P).
Froom the previous response, I was about to go and amend all of Dave Stieb's cards with "pitcher" at the end of his name.

Then there is a whole lot of cleaning up that will need to be done. This convention is prevalent throughout the DB. The FAQ does not mention the use of differentiators and actually mentions only using them when separting PIDs, but eliminating them afterwards.

I think this is something that some new members have started doing in error. I just searched Randy Johnson because I knew there were at least 2. There are actually 4 in baseball; all have a designator when you search the name (P), (DH), (3B) & (OF). But for none of them do any of their cards come up with this designator as part of the name field.
The reason I asked was that this was the first time I saw it and I know it is not right. Now to figure out how tomake people stop doing it. Few read the forums so the majority will not learn of this error.

When a PID is first created a differentiator can be added, there's a field for it. Admin can add differentiators to PIDs after they are created. These differentiators are for name searches only.
In the Permissions for Level 3, no where does it state to put differentiators in the Name field. It states to put the name on the card in the Name field.

The Tony Pena cards of this particular player seem to all have been edited by the same member. Sampled a few in the change log. Funny thing is, the 2004 cards were not done and a few of the others as well - not a complete edit of all cards.
