Hi All - Just joined site, great info & contributions. I just received a lot of misc wax pack cards and received a Mint #490 Cal Ripken, Jr. card, perfectly centered, incredible color on both sides. EXCEPT the Reverse is Card #621 {Al Newman w/ correct Stats}. Has anyone seen or heard of this error? I will post pictures <camera battery charging> - Many Thanks - Jim

Printing error and not listable here. This often happens when a sheet of cards already printed on one side goes into the wrong print for the reverse side. Errors such as these are not listed here but there are collectors who will pay a small premium for them.

Bruno - TY for the info. I thought that may be the case as it is not an actual "printing" error and a "production" error. I have done some research and have yet to find one like it with either info or a sold item, that is why I asked if a possible discovery piece. Was thinking of getting it slabbed once TPG's catch up. - Jim

Jim, I personally look at it as a "conversation piece". The fact that Ripken is ont he front makes it more attractive than a common player on both sides. In my collection I have interesting ones such as two 1965 OPC cards where one front is Pete Rose and on the other card, he is on the back, while the front and backs of those two are Walt Alston. Two HoF (in my mind, Pete is a HoF) sharing fronts and backs. The downside is that I still need the Rose card for my set; one of themain reasons I had bought the lot of cards was for it. I also have a 1968 OPC NL ERA Ldrs front with Eddie Mathews stats on the back. That one has 3 HoF on the same card as Niekro and Bunning are on the front.
If you are a Ripken fan, then it is a nice different addition to your collection.

I think my favorite wrong back mishap was the 1991 Topps baseball fronts with 1991 Topps football backs. Must have been a busy day at the printer. And somehow the same thing happened with 1991 Fleer football with baseball backs.

You made me laugh. I had never heard of that mishap. Wonder if anyone got fired that day.
I must say, it seems like it happens more often than one would imagine considering how often members here bring it up that they have this "ERR" card. And those are the ones that get past quality control. How many more are found and removed before being packaged?

I wonder if anyone had the crazy idea of listing something like that on eBay as a 'Sports Crossover 1/1'.

I would think it would be WF Wrong Front! OR, they could label both sides & add 2 beans...it is a real nice card!

Agree as a conversation piece. I am fairly new to Baseball Cards. I owned a coin & collectibles shop some years back, bought some nice cards and stacked them away as I was always too busy for "multiple collecting addictions". The interest in this card parallels from many years of collecting error coins & currency, so it caught my eye and therefore my original post. Your 1965 & 68 OPC "errors" are awesome although I understand the need & hunt for the correct specimens. Just being OPC's has to make the hunt 1000x harder! That's were my shop came in, as over the years I unknowingly bought a few sets back then, mostly early 1950-60's cards, that are very nice, never really saw too many OPC's. Thank you for the advice.
