This year's HOF ballot has 34 names. Who are your selections? Here are mine:
1. Barry Bonds
2. Roger Clemens
3. Edgar Martinez
4. Ivan Rodriguez
5. Curt Schilling
6. Sammy Sosa

- Jeff Bagwell
- Jeff Kent
- Edgar Martinez
- Mike Mussina
- Tim Raines
- Ivan Rodriguez
- Curt Schilling
I loved watching Larry Walker play, but can't honestly say I feel he belongs in the Hall.

Bags is the only one that matters to me.
I don't see Clemens or Bonds getting in anytime soon without an official endorsement by MLB. Raines and Hoffman should get the additional votes they lacked last year. Lee Smith misses out one last time. Closers just don't get the love by voters.

I'd vote Bags in for sure. Then Raines, Martinez, and Rodriguez.

For me Edgar Martinez is a no brainer. I also would go with Clemens, Bonds, Ivan Rodriguez, Curt Schilling, and Jeff Bagwell.
I give the nod to Bonds because before the steroid accusations, he was still a pretty good player. Clemens gets in because he is one of the more dominate pitchers of his time. Curt Schilling , Ivan Rodriguez, and Jeff Bagwell have all had a good enough career to have earned a place in the HOF

After reading Jay Jaffe's articles, I was persuaded about Larry Walker. His real problem is the time missed because of injuries.

This discussion is one of my favorite ways to start the new year. Getting a jump on it this year...good deal!
If I had a ballot with up to 10 spots to fill, it would read:
- Mike Mussina - fully HOF worthy in my opinion, should've been voted in already; elite in his role throughout his career
- Tim Raines - fully HOF worthy in my opinion, should've been voted in already; elite in his role throughout his career
- Jeff Bagwell - fully HOF worthy in my opinion, should've been voted in already; elite in his role throughout his career
- Curt Schilling - To be honest, when he was playing my gut said he was just below what I would normally consider my cutoff for HOF worthy overall. But he gets a ton of bonus points for post-season clutch performance. In my mind you don't get that for a few wins here and there. But 11 and 2 in 5 post-season's spread over a 14 year period? Yeah...he was awesome in the clutch. And when I compare his career stats with Mussina--who DID feel like a HOFer to me when he was playing--he's actually just a teeny bit favorable. So he's on my list. Not really keen on some of his public comments, but that's probably the case for me with a lot of folks in the HOF that never got a Twitter account. So I can put that aside.
- Trevor Hoffman - Relievers deserve more love than they get, and he was dominant in that role
- Lee Smith - Same comment, plus he was a Bruce Sutter contemporary and very comparable; I can't quite figure out why he hasn't made the cut yet.
- Billy Wagner - See the Hoffman comments above
- Edgar Martinez - So while I absolutely hate the DH, it is a part of baseball (if that's what you want to call what the AL does). And Martinez was one of the best
- Are you sure I still can't vote for Pete Rose? Best I ever saw. Played the game the way I think it was meant to be played, 100% of the time. I really hope that someday he's at the top of this ballot. Everyone else from here on in is dubious for me for a variety of reasons, so I need to double-check the validity of a vote for Charlie Hustle before moving on. Still no? Oh. OK....
Well, then I think that's where I cut it off this year. I've got time to give further consideration to borderline (to me) Sheffield, McGriff, and Vlad before they fall off the ballot (I think). And likewise more time to balance those against the PED team that I still am not too thrilled with (in order of eventual vote if I ever get over it: Clemens, Bonds, Pudge, and Man-Ram.) Of course, McGwire fell off the ballot this year, due to lack of votes, so I guess it could come about where I have some tinge of regret for not using one of these last two spaces for them. But I'll get over it.
