I figured it would take me maybe 30 minutes to catalogue Donruss 1988 set but now 5 hours later looking for periods after "LEAF Inc" on each card I've lost interest in card collecting...anyways...I found 2 cards that had dark dots after "Printed in USA". 93 and 278. Both are "LEAF Inc." VARs. I checked the scans of these cards and only 1 of the cards 278 had the dot and 93 did not. To open a can of worms I dont want to...would this be a new Variation?

I have mostly been ignoring these sets as I find them very annoying. I ask myself do collectors really care about these printing variations? But certainly someone does, or they wouldn't go through the trouble of listening them here.

Hear, hear. I apologize for not addressing the OP's question, but I do wish there was an option to ignore all the micro variations for any set in the database because for me they don't make a worthwhile difference.

I have done nothing with this set specifically but for the 1989 I am at 97.3% of the master set and for 1990 99.7% of the master set. At first I did not care to look into these types of variations but jumped in to help the site with verifying what exists. It creates new life for these way overproduced junk wax era cards along with being a true collecting challenge. As far as I am concerned much more enjoyable than the current state of card collecting which is mostly $$$$$$$ motivated.

I checked my set and my version of 93 does not have the dot, but 278 does. Quick check of COMC shows that 70% of the Righetti cards (93) have the dot and 100% of the Guerrero cards (278) have the dot. My guess is that these would be classified as printing errors on the site and as such would not be catalogued. Looking at my Guerrero card, it looks like something was on the printing plate that caused the issue.

Many of us feel like you do, Sturgeonfishie, but I will say that having taken the time to properly list everything I have for Trade of these VAR has produced a fair amount of trades for cards I really wanted. Some colelctors do want every micro VAR and if I can help them out, then I will do so.
Yes it takes time to sort everything. If it helps speed things up, go thorugh your physical collection and separate the VAR. Then enter them here on the site. Still time consuming but much quicker.
I personally have the 1989 Donruss sets either complete or almost complete. I do have all the other Donruss sets identified properly in my Traders. I still have the 1992 Leaf VAR to identify and list properly.

griffey423 nailed this one - this would be considered a printing flaw, and would not be listed here as this was not a plate change. (Which is the reason the cards with and without periods are listed, because that was an actual change in the typesetting -> change to the plate. Those are valid reasons for VARs on the site, despite the "severity".)
Speaking of "severity" of a variation, this is where we tread on shaky ground. (There has always been chit-chat about these being minor and wanting to be ignored.) What may seem minor to one collector may not be to another. Some might call the "sparkle" variations in the 2010's Topps baseball sets minor. Do we ignore those? (Rhetorical question.) We can't. And as long as it qualifies as a variation for TCDB, we will list them, regardless of how major or minor it may be. (Heck, a card from the 60s just had a VAR added because where there is an asterisk [6-points] there is also a version with a "star" [5-points] - but it was clearly different in the typesetting, so it's valid for TCDB. Some might consider it minor, in fact, if it was known 50 years ago, no one cared to even differentiate it.)

You can blame me for getting the 1988 listed. I got tired of making trades for no dot cards and having to write a list. I have two complete sets one with dotes and one with no dotes. Plus two boxes of extras. That was sitting there going nowhere. Over 1000 cards I could not trade because they were not listed. What is sad is the listing are still wrong. I also have two complete sets on the MVP cards one with dots and one with no dots. Plus extras I still can't list because the listing for the MVP are not there. I gave up, me explaining there are two of every card not counting the checklists cards. over & over again to people that could not get it. Even sent images of them. I do find it odd that a set that is 33 years old can't be completely listed correctly. Got close, but struck out on the MVP listing. :(
The answer is yes there are people out there that want dot & no dot cards. I have been doing it before the cards were listed. I would just send a message if a card from the set came up in a trade and most times it matters to them and lead to another trade when I sent the list to them of what extras I had. I was even trading no dot for dot cards because the one was listed here and I could post it for trade.

What is that behind you!?! Oh, It's me! Looking at the cards you have, That I want. :)

Have you actually requested to have the MVP cards listed here?
