One of the very best to play the sport. I am not as much a Basketball fan as I am Baseball, but seeing this made me very sad.

Bill Russell had already retired as a player by the time I got interested in basketball around 1971, but I remember seeing him on NBA telecasts as a commentator and I loved his infectious laugh. He had many great games against my all-time favorite, Wilt Chamberlain, but be sure to read about all the great things he did off the court as a humanitarian. A true champion.

A true champion. I enjoyed watching him and rooted for him especially against Wilt the Stilt.

one of the greatest of all time. an intense competitor. NCAA Champion, NBA Champion 11x, Olympic Champion, NBA champion as a coach 2x.
He played in 30 championship elimination games in his career. His record was 28-2
As an outspoken athlete for civil rights in the 1960's the five greats, representing 5 sports, were: Bill Russell, Jim Brown, Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali and Arthur Ashe. Only Jim Brown remains.

As great a player as he was, he was a better human! I'm a Laker fan, but this one saddens me greatly. Rest in power Mr. Russell

What a sad day! I mean...do they get any better than Bill Russell?
He just seems like he was a great person, an obviously a great player!
It is sad to hear of his passing!
