I was able to watch him play against the Rockets in the late 70s when no one went to Houston games. You could always hear players' court conversations in the empty stadium.
During the game something happened that upset McGinnis, maybe he was called for a foul, but he lost his temper and slammed the ball hard on the floor at around midcourt and it just bounded into the empty stands. I'm not sure if the technical followed or had led to his outburst, but he headed for the showers.
After the game as I'm exiting the stadium, the players had loaded up on the bus and I see this lovely lady shouting, "George, George!" and McGinnis runs out from the bus and takes a paper from her and runs back into the bus. I think she was his cousin.
Anyway, rest in peace, Mr. McGinnis.
