You guys are talking about managed payments. The easiest way is to have a seperate bank account. You have options as to how often you want ebay to send your money. Buyers can still pay via paypal. If you want to keep a paypal balance you can always transfer it from your bank.

It probably would be easy enough to set up another account, especially with online banking there's the option of doing it all yourself in likely a few minutes. 

But lately I've just lost the pleasure of selling. The time involved isn't worth it for me anymore.

So that explains why I can't deposit money into my PayPal account.  It was nice having it separate and sending my budgeted amount amount in there every month.  I'm guessing by not having any "bank accounts" and being just a front end allow them to skirt certain requirements and regulations subject to banks.   

With all the changes and fees with ebay and such I wanted to ask for those of you that sell cards what sort of savings would you be able to pass on to members here on sales vs. using one of your outside selling options? I mainly collect and have sold very little but I was curious what an expected going rate would be. For example: let's say I was interested in filling out a 1990 Topps baseball set where I only needed a few star typ players. This is just a phony example but say i wanted:

1990 Topps Griffey Jr., Tony Gwynn, Cal Ripken, Nolan Ryan, Barry Bonds. Pretty generic here as I didn't even list card numbers but I am just curious what a cost would be from a member here to cover what someone needed for the cards, the PayPal fees and the shipping.

I'm asking more because I may attend a card show at the end of the month for fun so if I found these at a table there am I better off buying them there if the cost $3 or $4 or $5?

Another twist, not that I need commons as I have accumulated a ton of them but if a set builder was needing commons from 1990 Topps and was buying through here what would most of you require to make it worth your while? Is it $.02 per card, $.05 per card, $.20 per card? I'm assuming plus shipping costs and PayPal fees. I'm guessing this varies a lot because some members might not mind the time spent pulling them while others feel time is money.

I selling mainly on Sportlots. I am happy to give anyone here a good discount for buying on here. I would do a 30% discount on "premium cards" i.e. anything .50 cents or more and much more than that on commons especially in bulk form. 

I don't sell much on ebay but my initial reaction when I got the email from ebay about this was "yay, no more paypal fees" and then kept reading and saw ebay is just tacking on the same fees that paypal charged so there's no benefit. I agree it was nice to have a little "fund" for hobbies in the paypal account. 

I'm very hesitant to use ebay anymore anyway after having a card returned to me because the guy put it under a microscope and said it wouldn't grade as a 9 or a 10 so he didn't want it and I got stuck with shipping charges both ways and no refund on my ebay fees because he claimed the card was "damaged."

The way I understand it is existing listings are grandfathered, but after the cutoff date sellers can't post any new listings until they comply. (For me, the cutoff date is 1/20.)

I've been eBaying since '99, and I have been wrestling with whether to do this. Every time I start to, I wonder if I really want to give eBay a bank account and SSN. (I was asked for SSN, were you?) In addition to the privacy aspect, I am just tired of eBay changing the rules so frequently and seeming to marginalize the small sellers. 

At the same time, I have sold quite a bit of stuff over the years that I otherwise couldn't have gotten near the money for, so maybe it's worth it. But, for right now I think I am just going to sit back, leave my listings up, not list anything new for a while, and see how I feel going forward.  

BTW, I have had an online-only savings account for years with Barclays that I use for linking with Paypal, as opposed to the household checking account. I am sure you could find a similiar no-fee product, and having a dedicated account for hobby buying/selling is a good way to keep the "family dollar" safe. You could make that case to your spouse if needed.

Thanks everyone for giving your input here.  I'm relatively new to the website but a long time collector.  This was the only place I could find any explanation regarding this Ebay/Paypal fiasco.  As I have said to my kids for years, "its' all about the money".  I don't believe one word from Ebay that this is better for the users in the long run.  It's better for Ebay in the long run!  Well, not necessarily if people like us stop using the website.  I know tcdb partners with them but sure seems like Ebay is looking at the short term profits versus the long term.  

I like many of you used Paypal as my hobby account.  I have another friend in the same boat so we are not alone.  Everything has to be considered.  Yes, there are pros and cons to selling and trading.  Luckily, I have not had any problems with buyers returning my items on Ebay over the years so I can't complain about that issue.  

Please post updates!  I'd love to know what you all decide to do.  My friend and I are still undecided.

E-Bay is nothing more than a racketeering outfit.  I just sold an item for $35 plus $4.00 shipping.  With their new payment system after their cut I'm getting $33.90 and i had to pay $3.25 out of my paypal to ship it.  I'm so done with selling on E-bay. UGH.
