So I wanted to get the opinion of the TCDB community on this issue. I'm new here, been a member for about 2 months and am loving it so far. On 12/26/19 I received some damaged goods in the mail. A card that the corners were so frayed and rounded it looked like someone used it to pick their teeth (obviously they didn't, at least I would hope not.) Another card had a line through the top of it, maybe a printing error idk. And then there was another card in there that was not in our proposal which leads me to believe it was sent because of the poor shape the previously mentioned card was in...however, that card had tape stuck to it so when I attempted to remove it from the piece of paper it was attached to the front of the card ripped. Now I understand that we are trading used cards here and do not expect them to be in mint condition but I think it's fair to let someone know if a card is in rough shape. Now all that being said I can get over the loss of the cards....The thing that is bugging me is that I messaged the person on 12/26/19 about the issue and have yet to get a response. I'm trying to give the said person a chance to at least respond before I leave a review cause I really don't want to leave a bad review.
Am I way off base here?
What would you do?

Not off base, actually bang on in what you have done so far. When you received the damaged goods, you tried to contact the individual and he hasn't responded. Does not look good on him. As well, as you said in your post, if a card proposed in a trade is less than VG, it should be noted and be asked if it is acceptable to the recipient. That is what most good traders do on this site.
At this point, a Negative feedback is not unwarranted. As well, mentioning the name in this Forum is also a way to make others aware of a possible bad trader. Fortunately, 99% of the traders here are excellent as shown in their 100% positive feedback.

All members should be forthright about card condition issues when trading. The issues you mention should have been disclosed to you in advance (before accepting).
But, please don't be too quick to out the member or leave negative feedback until you've had contact with the member.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

If the cards are significantly damaged - and it seems like they are - it's his responsibility to notify you in advance.
You might send a message in the way that you haven't yet. Like if you sent a stand-alone, try one from the transaction page. Or vice versa. But you won't be the bad guy if you leave negative feedback after giving him a chance.

I saw the best cards of my generation destroyed by creases, soft cornered hysterical edge wear, dragging themselves through the hobby shops at dawn looking for a top loader...

I concur with my fellow member. As many others have eluded to in the past communication is a priority although not exactly followed 100% of the time. I agree you've handled the situation well and as Bruno mentioned if no reply has been received (and if it appears as though the member has logged on since that time and has not been absent/away) then you are within your rights to do so. Sometimes this can be as a result of inadequate protection during shipping though from what I am reading perhaps not in this case.

You're going about this correctly. If condition wasn't originally discussed in the proposal, it's up to the owner to disclose the poor shape prior to sending the cards. It could've made the difference between a trade or a pass. Seems you have given over 2 weeks for a reply to no avail so if you don't hear anything back in the next couple of days, feedback should be left. I'm not a huge fan of negative feedback but if the dude is sitting on a pile of trash cards, it might help someone avoid receiving more of them down the line.

yes, but they must be tied to another internet site as a reference point. I use Imgur.
