Just turned on my Desktop PC. Seems Microsoft did an automatic refresh of some sort without my OK. Files and photos, gone. Bookmarks, gone. Desktop Icons gone. I dont think I even have security.. But they did give me a nice Best Buy Icon. I can't even complain to anyone about this. And the print is smaller too, add insult to injury.

If Joe's unhappy, I'm unhappy.
I'm not sure if you'd set up a recovery date if what happened could be reversed that way. The text feature can be adjusted by going to your browser's settings.

You maybe able to do a system recovery from a past date. As far as files go, those are probably gone I'm afraid.

Google "System Recovery" or "System Restore for Operating System X". (X is whatever system you're using. Windows 7 for example).
It's not very difficult to do
Here's one search example https://neosmart.net/wiki/system-recovery-options/

Yup starting from scratch. Most files were unimportant as I do no online banking or things of that nature. Just would like to know why Windows decides to do this without the usual disclaimer. Maybe someone was trying to hijack the files and realized they were all uselsss. Except where did the Best Buy icon come from

Did you buy it from there? Or maybe get an upgrade from them?

just for the record, are you it was Microsoft amd not some malware?
Are you able to see hidden files/folders on your PC? There are tools to easily recover deleted files from your computer as long as you don't format the disk.
edit: the icon seems very suspicious. If you right click it and go to properties, you will see an URL property and sometimes you see things like legitpage.com/home.html -execute "some virus"

my computer reset sometime in the last few days. Wiped out my router/wi fi connection and deleted all my saved passwords. I have had to redo pretty much all of them as I have to go through the recovery steps to retrieve my accounts. very frustrating.
usually it seems as if there is a big update coming or something else i need to buy. lol.
Files are all safe though.

When upgraded to Windows 10, there was a legitimate connecection between Microsoft and Best Buy. I remember deleting all the Best Buy references and Icons back then, so it seemed legit.
