I went in to buy some 15-cent stamps at my local post office, where I've done so before several times this year and had this following encounter. I'll add that it was all a very civil encounter between me and the clerk.
I asked for seven 15-cent stamps. She went to get some and came back saying they didn't have any. Then she offered me some 10-cent and 5-cent stamps. I said okay and asked if that would still cover the extra ounce. She said no, and proceeded to show me the extra ounce stamps, but said they're 21-cent stamps. I corrected her and said that they're now 15-cents. She denied that saying that they just had a rate change this past January. I explained that I was aware of that but that they actually went down from 21-cents to 15-cents. She said I was wrong and asked her co-worker and he agreed with her, and he even repeated her statement that the stamps increased to 21-cents. I just smiled and asked if she could check the website, and she said no, but would scan them to ring them up. Lo, and behold, they rang up as 15-cent stamps. She looks at her co-worker and tells him, "They're 15-cents. I need for you to do your job better. I get so fed up with you." I got my 15-cent stamps and went on my merry way.

Sounds like a typical day at my PO. They may as well have various prices on a wheel and just spin it and see where it stops and that's what you pay.

Most exchanges with women end with some kind of disappointment. No reason it should be any different at the post office.

I have begun the process of selling most of my collection on eBay (https://www.ebay.com/usr/k-lots). The rest will be practically given away. If you'd like to "rescue" a card from this fate, give me an offer. I'm currently only entertaining trades that help me downsize my collection or provide equitable cost/value for a card I will keep (see "Collects" in my profile). -Bob

The moral.
Never assume they anyone anywhere doing a job, has a clue what they are doing. The younger they are the more so this is true.

It is sad that this is so true with the USPS. My son went to the local PO last week to mail a 14 ounce 1st class package and was told that 1st class was no longer an option for over 6 ounces as of 6-23-19 rate changes. A supervisor was called and confirmed. They made him use Priority mail. I would have walked away as I told then to pull their head out but he shipped it anyway.

I noticed this "extra ounce" stamp phenomenon in a couple of my trades here, so I figured I'd do well to pick some up for myself. So I go to the PO yesterday to drop off a trade and ask the clerk about the "extra ounce" stamps. She said "Yes, that's basically what I just did on this outgoing envelope." I asked if I could purchase some, then she turned around and started a conversation with a coworker and completely ignored me.
Maybe she didn't hear me, but it made me not ever want to go back to that PO location again.
