Since my original post on this thread way back in the past (ok, just 2019) I have been able to start collecting license plates. In fact I just officially started last month. I redid part of my house to have a permanent place to work on models and the walls were bare. Since I'm a car nut I knew I would put something car related there, and it didn't take me long to have the license plate idea hit me. So far I've only gotten 4 hung up but I know I have a few more mixed into my stuff that I need to round up.
I'm not going to rush out to fill the wall, I'm going to take it as it goes and build the collection over time, mainly by car shows. The Rhinebeck car show always has a ton of license plates for sale but I always walked past then because I didn't have a place for them. Even just as recently as three months ago this happened. I know I won't be able to go to Rhinebeck next year so it'll have to wait...
My main focus is going to be on New York state, with the goal to be a type set. But I also already have a South Dakota, Ohio, New Jersey and Kentucky in my collection so it won't be totally NY. I may focus more on the 90s designs from other states. We had only one design from 1986 to 2002 and it's still the iconic plate for me. I know I have one in my storage unit but I just have to locate it. It will go right dead center in front of me so I can always see it easily.
VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
