I recently purchased a 1910 Piedmont DummyTaylor card, but I'm having trouble finding it in the database.  I found the card but it has a carmel back.  My card has a Piedmont back. Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you are referring to the T206 set????

If so, "There are 16 different T206 cigarette brand backs. In alphabetical order: American Beauty, Broad Leaf, Carolina Brights, Cycle, Drum, El Principe De Gales, Hindu, Lenox, Old Mill, Piedmont, Polar Bear, Sovereign, Sweet Caporal, Tolstoi, Ty Cobb and Uzit. And they range from very common to ultra-rare."

This set needs a little work to add all the VARs....which really surprises me because it's one of the most iconic baseball sets.

Problem with this set is there are the 12 different backs, but it's not fully known which cards have which backs. This is also one of those sets where the variation filtering would be very beneficial.

I think the other problem is not having a willing "project manager" to take this one on.

It's definately a challenging set and will take a little bit of work for sure. Tobacco sets of that era are all like that. The American Tobacco Company had a monopoly on tobacco products at the time and around 250 product brands. Plus they had their own prining company and several printing factories.  They could produce cards for whatever product they wanted, share printing plates across product divisions, and print from multiple locations. That created a lot of different advertisements for each set and caused a lot of VARs because of different printing procedures between factories.

They made some great cards sets that are not very easy for modern collectors to document.

I think the T206 and other American Tobacco Company sets of this era represent the pinnacle of the tobacco era cards. A couple years ago I attempted to document the 1911 American Tobacco Company Heroes of History / Men of History (T68) set. It was extremely difficult for all the reasons Dan (Vrooomed) mentioned.

I initially made an incredible mess of the set and had to go back and redo it with Admin's help. Lots of time and effort to undo my own mistakes as well as verify and correct numerous incorrect images.

All of this was done before the new drop-down capability (which is AWESOME) and the current state of the (T68) set is probably below the standards of TCDB.

I hope someone takes the T206 set on. It's beautifull, iconic, and a it's very difficult to find a full, detailed listing of this set in an easy to use format.

That was also all before Admin introduced the Variation Dropdown for sets with all (or most) cards having variations. I'm sure it's not a big secret that this set was a target of that methodology when it was introduced and started gaining momentum.

Before any work should be done toward making this a reality for the T206 set, the first thing that really needs to be done is to verify that the images that we currently have here are VALID - as in, the backs shown actually match up to real life examples of the card. One of the issues we brought up early on when confronted with this monster was the high potential for "phantom frankencards" (cards that don't actually exist because we got a front scan from one member and back scan from another member, when the back scan didn't really come from THAT card). I do worry that some of the backs shown here are from that mind set of "All backs are the same, I need points, I'm uploading the same image ot all cards missing a back image" (we've seen this - a lot), and that the front/back combo shown here is not "real". (Not saying that this is definitely the case here, but saying it's very real possibility.)

The next step would be noting all of the cards in the set with a standardized text in Note2 (such as "VAR: Piedmont back" or "VAR: Polar Bear back"). Then we would need Admin's assistance to get the Variation Dropdown in place with the complete list of variations possible, and have Admin ensure the filters are working properly with the cards that are currently listed.

After that is complete, then the variant backs can be added for each player. Those would need to be done through the IRs as 1 - only L8s can insert cards, and 2 - the resolvers understand the Variant Dropdown system and will get the cards into the correct filters. (But this step is still a long way off.)

Who wants to step up and take on the challenge of verifying every card displayed here?

This set is my favorite set of all time yes there is 16 different backs and there are variations of a bunch of cards within the set. If I knew how to do a checklist I would do it myself but one thing you have to keep in mind some cards may have a sovereign back but other cards do not some cards will have a polar bear back while some cards do not it's gonna be a tedious set and with over 6000 cars within the set itself there's gonna be a chore for anyone to do

They are not variations, they are separate sets that share artwork. They were not in the same packs, ever. Each back was only packed in one cigarette brand, although it is possible that there are variations among individual sets. 

To be truly listed properly they would be under an American Tobacco Company listing with no base set, and the 16 different backs each listed as a related set. (Not insert or parallel, but related set is not an option to choose)

I'm aware that this will not be done, but I hope only to keep the actual facts present somewhere, considering how much of tobacco card era history has been rewritten in retrospect to match the catalog.
