I recently won this card on eBay and I'm trying to identify this Ron Guidry card on the trading card database and I'm coming up blank. Any help would be great.

...please don't tell me that's a 1,179 card checklist that's going to need every card number changed to reflect what's actually on the card...

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Does it matter if it is a reprint or an original?
The card I have is from '01 Topps Team Legends and is a reprint of a 1960 Topps card. It is numbered similarly in the database like this Guidry, that is not using the card number of the original but perhaps the scheme of the rerelease set.

We list cards using the number that is actually on the back of them, regardless of what the manufacturer might indicate. Panini releases checklists with numbers, but the insert sets usually have letters as the card number.
In the case of a reprint where the original card back shows one number, but the fine print reflects another. we use the reprint number. See this Roberto Clemente and look in the lower right corner.
Using the correct number printed on the back is a) more accurate with site guidelines and b) enables the "Card Number" filter to be utilized correctly. In this case, had OP tried to do a filtered search for card #250, he wouldn't have found this one. Remember, site guidelines aren't just here to make everyone's life miserable and keep us conformed to Admin's view. They also allow the site tools to be used properly.
So, short answer: it can matter. What matters is that the proper card number that is on the back (or possibly front, I suppose) is the card number that is reflected in the Database.

No one tell Jason that, please. No one say ANYTHING to Jason.
Jason, nothing to see here. Stop reading now.
Everyone else, all the numbers in this 1,100-plus- card set are incorrect and will need to be updated.

In the case of that set, they are in fact Topps Reprints, and there is an additional line of text on the card that the original does not have - which includes the card number for that particular reprint set.
In the case that Shane (OP) has brought up, these are originals (bought back) and signed by the players. There are no additional card numbers added for the set. Therefore, we need to use the original card numbers.

Looks like this checklist was added using baseballcardpedia as a reference
http://baseballcardpedia.com/index.php/2004_Topps_Originals_Signature#Checklist
The correct info (hopefully) exists on Beckett in their inferior notes style. At the end of each entry it lists the year and serial number (in the case of the first Andre Dawson card they list as AD1 but at the end 77/1 for 1977 SN1). Going to have to use this info and finding the real cards entry here to update our card numbers and note2.
Lets pick a random member to start.......say Jason?

Topps Archives usually has a separate numbering system as well, but they make the print almost impossible to read. Take this example from 2001:
These are two different cards, #318 and #328
