I am curious as to how everyone feels about the pricing on this site?
I like the concept of having pricing readily available for the cards and the sets, but I find that it's too difficult to keep up with pricing chainges and updates across a large number of cards. Also, since this site is crowd-sources, there don't seem to be enough people submitting updated prices to help keep the site pricing current.
As far as I'm concerned, I'd like to see the pricing feature disabled/hidden until such a time as the pricing can automatically update. For example, automatic updates based on pricing by a number of sources (e.g. simultaneous consideration of eBay, Beckett, etc.).
I'd be curious as to the thoughts of others. Perhaps if enough of us feel the same, Admin will give some consideration to temporarily disabling/hiding the feature.

This has been discussed ad nauseam.
Just searching "pricing" in the Forms results in over 100 threads with that subject: https://www.tcdb.com/SearchForum.cfm

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

He is the problem with the way we are crowdsourcing card prices. We are pulling from sold prices on sites that take their cut of each sale. If I were going to my LCS and selling them my cards I am only getting 55% of the last eBay sale. So I look at my collection price on this site and take about 25% of that number for my price of cards. The pricing will never be great on this site if we are taking sold on sites that take cuts from selling.

Never use pricing as any kind as a guide. Had to back in the day on Beckett because everyone there used Becket BV to balance trades. Glad I am not there anymore (5 or 6 years gone).

But why base your card worth by what a dealer would pay. What do ebay fees have to do with it? I am confused by this. Regardless of fees someone out there paid an amount that they thought it was worth. This being said the only reason I use pricing on this site is it works like an alert to tell me that a player I didnt know about might be worth something. If a rookie that I never pulled is showing up at $5 now I am going to go dig them out of the box,

It depends on what you are looking at prices for. If you are selling on FB you do not have any fees and you may get paid out in full. But if you are trying to see what you may get out of a card on eBay or at a LCS then it's important to know teams that into consideration. Plus the prices are in flux right now can we really depend on prices from a week ago.

There are so many better sources of pricing information than what we find on this site, ebay sales and Beckett Guides. Two of these I cringe at when someone quotes them to me while the other is only reflective of the current market which right now is in a craze period and should not be used as the only source for valuing your collection.
In trades, it is easy to see when someone is trying to scam someone else by offering commons from the same year and every card he asks for in return are RC or stars/HoF. I see these and the "Decline" button comes in use. I NEVER price the cards in a trade; IMO those who do really need to evaluate their collecting style.
I don't sell a lot, more to a couple of local guys who don't have a lot to trade and that I can meet up with. When I do sell some cards, I know what players are actually worth a premium and which ones will be worth the value of a common within a couple of years. I use sportlots as a guide because it has a fairly large inventory of cards as well as enough sellers to get a good idea of what the card is worth. But I still give a big discount to those prices including the fact that I do not convert the exchange.
If all you are after is selling cards that are "valuable", list them on ebay or FB Marketplace and get what someone is willing to pay because that is all what your card is worth.

I just selected a random price link for newer football cards. There are several issues.
Many cards don't even have a price entered. Probably because of the requirements needed to enter the price of a common.
For cards with pricing the prices are so out of whack. Who is paying $.66 for Spencer Ware and $70 for Chris Conley? #344 David Blough $7.00? Hey, I'll trade you a David Blough for Kyler Murray who is valued at $6.67.
Pricing is and has been broken here for as long as I have been here. I used to care and try to make corrections but I long ago gave up on this. Sometimes I don't see an easy way to fix this.

I appreciate the fact it does show pricing (when available) to give a starting point to negociate a final price/value for my collection. Certainly with no monthly/subscription fee is helpful as well as the latest data. Median value is a fair start for cards - hotter cards you could push for more while others possibly less.
