I'm all for this in a way! I understand the privacy issues of a public list of addresses, but unless I'm missing something wouldn't just keeping the addresses in the completed trade pages solve the issue? Are completed trades viewable to the general public? I have been neglegent in keeping address records for sending out a surprise or two. Would love to have access to previous traded addresses.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I have to go back to Billy's post since I was mentioned there. The NUTS website has a Mailng List where eveyone's address is listed on there. There are 2 good things about that specific list though. #1 is that you have to be a Member of the site to get into the list (site is free, but you have to be approved for membership). #2 is that you have to personally add your address to the list. My address has been on there for over 5 years now and nothing but good things have happened since I added my address on that list.
I don't agree that TCDB should have this type of list though! This site is way too open to outsiders for addresses to be publicly posted on the site in any way. I do agree that the addresses should stay in a transaction after it is completed though. I have made trades where I wanted to send something extra after the trade (or vice versa) and asking for the addy kinda negates the surprise. Also, in recent weeks, there have been questions pertaining to the area where I live and I would prefer to answer those personally. I don't mind others that I am familiar with telling someone that I am close to them, but I would prefer to be the one telling them how close or far I am from them.
The last thing I want while using this site is other people really close to me knowing what valuables are in my house!!!

OK, for my information. How could it be setup so addresses would be available to just friends? Lets say I have some additional cards I'm sending to memberx, and need the address quickly [other than checking my composition book, lol]. Go to profile and click friend [memberx] and address is their?

I've gotten surprises from fellow members in two ways recently. One from a member who probably kept my address old-fashioned way, I really don't know as I didn't ask. But I was also surprised by offers made by members using the Transaction Manager who wished to send me cards for nothing in return. The element of surprise was still there and very gratifying. I just had to accept and they had my address, and I theirs.

This is delicate ground we're treading on if any of this is implemented.
Allowing other members to see your address just by becoming "friends" with them on here: This process would now need to come with a disclaimer indicating that becoming frinds with someone on here will expose your address to friend. This could also lead to friends of friends (or even someone requesting it from a friend of a friend) to obtaining possession of your mailing address.
Any other suggestion I think has already been sufficiently rebuked.
The only suggestion that actually really could be satisfactory would be the persistence of the address in transaction manager even after the transaction has been marked as complete.
Although, I personally don't know why we would need to bother Admin with such a request when the solution lies squarely in our own hands.

Open groups need closed address books
Closed groups have open address books
This is an 'open group' as anyone can join, and we already have closed address book and should remain the same
I do not want my address in hands of unproven newbies, but I am ok with address showing in transactions that I approve.
I am in closed groups as well, where the membership roll is smaller, and you have to prove yourself as good trader with a few sample trades before becoming a member. In the closed groups, membership list is viewable to members only through site login, or group only email.
thanks, mark

I'd like to add my two cents if you don't mind. As this thread first started I kept thinking this would be a great idea. I made a few trades when I joined and didn't think to go back and save addresses for that "just in case". The more discussion there is about this topic, the more i'm in changing my view. I DO like the idea of having a an address available once the transaction is completed. However, I think about this from an IT guy perspective, someone who's been in the IT consulting field for 20 years. There's risks. Personal information, Identity theft, etc. Please don't misunderstand what I'm about to say, and I mean absolutely no disresect to Admin or anyone involved with the site. In fact I do have an understanding of what goes into running a site like this and do have a lot of respect for people that are willing to do the work and time / commitment involved. Even with my IT backround, I joined this site as a trading card collector not as a "is this site safe and secure". The bottom line is websites do get hacked and personal data can be comprimised (This is the part where I mean absolutely no disrepect to Admin for the work he and his staff have put it). The more readily available the data, the easier it is to extract. I know we're talking about names and addresses, which is a matter of Public record. I'm not concerned of someone getting my address and showing up at my house when i'm not home, (maybe I should be), but it's almost more about, for me anyways, unsoliciated information.
The surprise element is nice, but as Sportzcommish says, he's received trade requests offering cards, with no return requests. To me that would be a nice surprise as well.
I've re-read my message several times before posting it,i think i've changed view each time thinking it through. I guess this is more of a ramble of thoughts.

I think you're totally on base here. And I see a few options. After all, those of us who trade on here have our address saved on our profile so that it can be displayed during a transaction. There are risks when doing this. Yes, sites can get hacked and addresses can come out. Heck, like someone else mentioned, someone else can get your address just via a transaction and do what they please with it.
I would be okay with address staying visible after a transaction. I would be okay with an address book if there was an option to toggle it on/off on your profile. I would even be okay if it was just visible to your friend's list.
I guess that because it doesn't matter to me, I wouldn't be picky either way. I keep a handwritten notebook of people I trade with. And ultimately, that brings me to my main point; I'm fully with vrooomed here. We already have the ability to keep an address book ourselves, whether hand-written or saved on a document. I don't see a need to keep one on the web when we can all keep our own.
Perhaps we can have an option added to the transaction manager to click: "Save my address after transaction is completed." Thus, if someone wants to keep their address out there, they can, and if they don't, they don't have to. I don't know; I don't see an easy solution to this suggestion (and I think it's come up a few times). But I will continue to keep my address book and utilize that whenever I need to
-------------------------------
I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

I do not want my address to be viewable in completed transactions to the general public.
I do not mind showing such to the person the transaction was with only
