Hi, This sounds crazy, but we filter everything on TCDB, why can't we filter What High School the athletes graduated from?

That's a good question, Bob. I like the idea of linking a high school to an athlete. While none worth noting have come from my high school, some have come from local high schools that made it to the Pro's in several sports. My first thought is Torry Holt in the NFL who went to my Mom's high school of Eastern Guilford High School in Gibsonville, NC. Ben Tate was also a local player who made it to the NFL. I know several more that made it to the NFL or NBA from local schools. A few baseball players also made it into the professional leagues, but not to the MLB level. I'm interested in seeing where this can go.

The only issue will be making sure everything is linked correctly, i.e. there are many high schools with the same name, in some cases 10, 15, 20 schools. It can be hard getting the right PID or TID lnked sometimes.
Not that this would be a reason NOT to do it, just a logistical factor to think about.

True, Many HS with same name, so you would have to associate the town with the HS. Actually, I'm thinking this is getting to be a really good idea. Between my HS and now my children's HS, I would collect these cards. Jack "The Assasin" Tatum, Clark Harris and soon to be Mike Gesicky are all FB players that apply, add Martin Truex. Cool, ADMIN, What do you think? ~BOB~

I wonder the same as that is the main emphasis of my collecting - players from the New Orleans area and I even have a page on my website for all of these high schools - http://boninsbriefs.com/want-list/new-orleans-area-high-school-professional-players-2/. Players like Eli & Peyton Manning, Marshall Faulk, Reggie Wayne, Will Clark, Mel Ott, Avery Johnson, Greg Monroe and much more. I agree that the city & state would have to be included as I am aware that there are other Jesuit, John F. Kennedy & De La Salle High Schools in the country. I would be willing to add all of the high schools with the city and state that they are located for those players that I collect.

One problem with this is getting the correct info. It is almost never found on the back of cards. You would have to go to wiki or somewhere and trust what is posted out there, not always accurate. Another is over the years, the high schools change even the simplest parts of their names. I went to Trenton High School. Now I believe it is called Trenton Central High School. And that is the one in NJ. There are many other Trenton high schools in other states as well.

I have been wanting this for years. Especially for baseball which has a large number of players go straight from HS to the minors and skip college altogether.
In addition to collecting my college (TCU) I also collect my high school, Martin High School in Arlington, Texas. (Notables include 1998 AL ROY Ben Grieve, former 1st round pick Todd Van Poppel, current Kansas City Royal Nathan Karns, fromer Montreal Expo Matt Blank, 2017 NFL #1 Pick Myles Garrett, and 2017 MLB 1st round pick Tristen Lutz).
I think it would be one of those things that would be nice to have even if it isn't necessarily easy to track. I can gurantee that all of Martin High School would be covered, though. :)

Turning off trading because my collection is in complete disarray after moving and I don't know when I can get it organized.

I think Splinter is spot on. The biggest challenge there would be in this is linking everything correctly.
I too collect players from my high school, although it's a small one; we only have two major leaguers. However, my other concern would be rooted in the fact that there are so many (literally thousands) of different high schools. We are already behind on birthdates, still finding multiple people linked to the same PID, etc. that I can't help but feel if the high school project would be something that should come later.
One last point that I just thought of while typing this up...NJDevils mentioned that we would have to go to another site for this information. He's right. So do we really need to import that information here? It's already available on the web. You can see players who were drafted from different high schools on Baseball Reference, and Wikipedia and even MiLB.com are good references too.
As I said, my use for this feature would be very limited. However, if it's something we do decide to implement (or Admin does) I wouldn't be against it (despite what my points above may sound like) and would be happy to help try to find the information.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Hardly anyone notable has come from my HS as it was made in 1990 when Andover and Brooklyn Park High Schools merged. Andover did have an MLB player (Jim Spencer) and Brooklyn Park had and Olympic silver medalist and world champion wrestler (Lloyd Keaser).

Orel Hershiser (baseball slightly before me) & Glenn Foley (football, 2 years after me - I actually also played little league baseball with him) went to mine. Thankfully, it was always called the same thing, but I wonder how many other Cherry Hill High School East or Cherry Hill East or CHHSE or... well, there's that problem too.
And, yes, if you heard about a high school that walked out because one of their favorite teachers were suspended, that was my HS a long time ago.
