I don't buy on ebay, but I was told that they have a set price of .99 cents on all postings. If that's true, then ebay is inflating the price, so wouldn't that be bad pricing. I check ebay sometimes on key rookies and star cards versus Sportlots and most of the time, you can still buy them for less on Sportlots. Ebay pricing may be ok if you're chasing the fancy shiny cards, auto cards, or graded cards, but not base common set cards. Guys, the market is flooded with base commons on most sets, so they're probably not even listed on ebay, They used to have a listing fee and I'm sure it's more than .20 cents, so not many base cards are listed there individually.
I know I have had some trades declined because some traders still use other sources to get their pricing and that's ok. Fortunately for me, there are enough people who are realistic about base cards and do trade with me. I've actually had traders that prior to coming here, had never heard of Sportlots, but once they look at the site and see how many cards are listed there for .20 cents, they begin to become enlightened about overproduced cards. Just thankful the site brought attention to Sportlots pricing, its real pricing.
Thanks to this site, I've been able to make over 2,000 trades with 711 different members and completed over 350 sets and insert sets in the 6 years I've been here. My trades have increased over the years, particularly the last 2 years and I believe more folks are adapting to the fact that it's not about money. It's a hobby to have fun, help others with their collections and being fair with each other. I have over 130 trade partners that I have completed at least 5 trades with each and 30 trade partners that I have completed double digit trades with! Why so many with the same folks, because money or pricing is never mentioned, we're trading to enjoy the hobby and at the same time respect each other enough that we don't ask for an "Trout" rookie for a base common. I've found most folks here are fair and reasonable and those are they guys I trade with. I can also tell you when a trader says he believes his 20 commons are worth more than my 20 commons in a Topps flagship set, then I make a note and move on. My list of great, helpful trade partners is a lot longer than my no trade list is. Anyway, I appreciate the site, the great traders here and look forward to many more years of building sets by trading with some great trade partners on TCDB. HAVE FUN and ENJOY the hobby.
