I received a damaged card in trade. Am I still required to send the cards in the trade to the other party? Is there a way to cancel the trade after one party has sent their cards?

Was the card damaged by the post office? Have you tried to work out a compromise to your satisfaction? And I'm wondering if you had agreed for your trade partner to send first and that you were to wait to receive before sending his card?
If that wasn't explicitly stated, then it's not a good look on you, either, in this case.

You need to communicate with the person you traded with and come to a resolution. You'll get plenty of ideas from people here, but this is between you and the trader to find common ground. There's also a difference between cards damaged during shipment versus cards being already damaged before they shipped. That may play a role as well. Though one may as why he had already sent his while you are still sitting on the ones you were to send.

Sounds like a poor choice on your part to not fulfill your side of the agreement. Ideally I send all my trades at the same time as the other sender. Granted, life happens and some people have a poor feedback rating that suggests caution.
Best bet would be to trade in good faith and seek a common ground with your partner in the transaction, like maybe some kind of replacement.

So the proper trade etiquette is to send at the same time and not the person who offers the trade send first? Card was damaged it transit by the way not the traders fault.

The way I view it - all trades are at your own risk, this includes to/from damage on shipping. You need to hold your end of the bargain. This is why sending cards at the same time is preferred because now it's a bad look if you hold cards for ransom for this issue. I don't think I would ever leave negative feedback on the quality of the cards unless it was blatantly obvious that it wasn't detected (a card was obviously torn in half). If you're trading things of value where this is a concern for you see statement 1 and maybe you should just sell the card on eBay with extra protection.

Then I'd not hold the trade partner accountable. And I'd send his card on to him.

Yes. Ideally, both people would send at roughly the same time unless there was an agreement beforehand. This is should always be communicated during the transaction. I try to send within 24-72 hours after the trade is accepted on both sides. If I can't get them out that quick I a) tell my partner when I intend to send and b) request that they hold off sending theirs if they so desire until I send mine. Whether they hold off or not is up to them, but I communicate this in good faith.
For me, if I send cards that get damaged during shipment I'll offer to make small amends if I can. If I received cards that got damaged in transit I'll let the trader know, but I almost always as for nothing unless the packaging was so obviously deficient that the cards were never properly protected. As stated earlier, we trade at risk here and are at the mercy of the postal systems. We all have horror stories of things gone awry.

If you still have the original envelope go to the post office and show them. But definitely not the traders fault. It’s happened to me before and I’ve just sucked it up and kept the card. Post office can’t be 100% all the time.

Hi JBH, maybe send your trading partner a message explaining that you received the package but one of the cards was damaged in transit. Sometimes they may have multiple copies of each card and be able to replace it easily. Or if you both agree to do another trade in the future, your partner could add the replacement card into that shipment to save $$ on postage. Most people on this site are willing to work with each other, and if it's not possible for them to get you that exact card, they might offer up something better?
