I've decided to really focus on trying to complete my newer (2001 to present) Upper Deck hockey sets including the Young Guns which I know is tough.  

For those who have made progress on adding more Young Guns to your sets/collection, what strategy did you use?

Buying them individually (eBay, Sportlots, etc.) since I know some are dollar cards at best?

Buying Young Guns lots?

or another method?

For Young Guns (and Star Rookies), it was easier and cheaper to start off looking for lots of 3, 5, 10, etc. that included a big chunk of what I needed, and sometimes I would get an extra or two but it'd be worth it when you considered shipping costs when buying one card at a time. Once I got to under ten or so, then I'd go for singles or lots of 2-3. Using this strategy, I completed every Football, Basketball and Hockey set through 2018-19.

Also keep in mind that I used that strategy the same year the cards came out, so I'm not sure how much luck you'll have finding lots from the 2000s and 2010s

To complete my 2020-21 set I looked for good deals on retail box’s and lots of Young Guns that had at least a couple that I needed. It didn’t bother me if I got doubles because I would use the site and make trades for ones I was missing.

I would check facebook groups.  Guys there always selling YGs for $1 a piece or sometimes 50 cents for the guys who never made it.  If you buy bulk you can get a very good deal.
