Went years with no problems, now here we go again. Twice in a matter of months. The bigger the site gets the more problem people we are exposed to. Offered to purchase 9 cards from this guy. He was all for it. Only charged me $10 bucks. I paypal'd him, or so I thought. Turns out I sent the $10 bucks to the wrong dude. He wasn't answering me and it got me aggravated. I tracked him down through one of his web-site links on his profile and asked where my cards were. He called me and went into this story of how he's got substance issues and blah, blah, blah. I talked to this clown for a half an hour and got his whole life story. I resent him the $10 bucks and he promised to get my cards out. Back and forth we go. He's texting me pics of the cards, sends me a friend request on here and marks the trade as sent, even says he's sending me an extra special Irish card. Well guess what. A month later and no cards, no answer to the texts I keep sending him. I told him I was going to blast him on here and was it worth a lousy $10. No answer and no cards. Now all I want this moron to do is mark the transaction completed.
Between this stuff and the postal problems I'm having I'm shutting down trading for a while. Maybe a long while. Between E-Bay and COMC I'm still scratching the itch so maybe that's where I need to stay for a bit.

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.

Thanks for the warning.
I am not sure why an experienced user with 1000+ feedbacks would buy from a newbie with less than 10 feedback... but it is a free country and each of us has our own level of risk we are comfortable with..
I like to make a smaller deal with new folks before a larger one later, but that is just me.
I don't mind losing small $ cards or small $$ sometimes, but it bothers me when a veteran trader feels like he needs to give up trading altogether, when there are so many partners here that are awesome with excellent history...stop trading? no way....trade with only those with 100 (or make your own number)? That may work better to limit getting burned occasionally.
sorry if this sounds harsh, but I do appreciate when folks call out a bad apple who needs to be called out....

I thought paypal was good for getting refunds if you got scammed?
I only had to deal once and got refunded right away.

I think a lot of the members have really enjoyed trading with you and we would all miss the opportunity to do trades with you. I know I would.

Speaking as someone who is relatively new to TCDb site, if you limit your trades to only people with established extensive feedback, you may miss trading with individuals who will eventually develop that established extensive feedback.
However, from interacting with others on eBay for over 20 years, I know you have to prove yourself as trustworthy in small transactions before seeking larger transactions. For TCDb, that means starting with small trades, which has beneficial for me in trying to complete sets and hopefully beneficial for those people I've traded with so far. And I'll give a shout-out to timriess who was willing to be the first person to trade with me and gave me some advice on using the site as well as techniques for sending cards inexpensively while providing a reasonable amount of protection against damage.
As for buying/selling through TCDb, since it does not afford the same protections as sites like eBay, I agree that you're taking a significant risk dealing with someone who has little or not established record. As Mark commented, that is something each person has to decide as far as their level of comfort.

A lot of people who have been on the site for a while will trade with people with little or no feedback, but they'll either take trade for small values or expect the person with the little or no feedback to send first and after the cards arrive the other member will send the cards back. Most of us who've hit over 200 trades have been taken advantage of at least once. Makes you a bit cautious when someone who just created an account a week before suddenly wants to trade for cards valued over $20 for their first or second trades.

Sorry to hear about this deal gone badly. My experience with ZBarr has been nothing but wonderful. He helped me complete my 2022 Topps Set and sent me a really nice note. Maybe there is some Life circumstance going on with Him right now? This is Thanksgiving Week, so try to give a little GRACE and let Him find a way to resolve, sooner than later . . .

I understand completely. The same thing has happened in the past on eBay before the site realized they needed to intervene since it is a solely a buying/selling platform. I remember losing money on a seller who had some positive feedback, but then ghosted me on several auctions selling larger value items.
My point was that the comment was made to only trade with individuals who have extensive feedback, but for someone new, they won't have an opportunity to develop that extensive feedback if no one trades because they are new and/or don't already have extensive feedback.
