I think all of us has had a card or two just vanish. (sometime a lot of of cards or a set)
My PC (over 10,000 cards) is in binders. Each binder has a year (some has more then one year and one year has 2 binders and looks like another year should be in 2 binders). I keep finding a few that is not in the correct place as I add more cards. Still can not figure out why I put a Topps in with Ultra.
All my traders are in boxes all over the place. (wife is not happy at times) Some what organized but not where it should be. Just keep hoping some one will come along and buy all of them. Then they can do all the work to get them in order.

It is because of similar issues both in my keepers and my traders that I worked on getting organized. The way I have it did not just happen; it evolved over time. The first thing I did learn is to keep traders apart from my collections. And then it was to keep everything related to each other together, e.g. in my PC, I used to put cards worth over $1 in a top loader and the rest in binders. Talk about confusion. Now they are all together in top loaders. Breaking down a large set collection into card company collections helped there. And if you look at my Collection here on TCDb, it is also broken down that way. Using the database to reflect my organization has helped a lot. But again, it is a work that is always in progress. I do find nowadays, any card missing in my traders I can recall it having gone out in a trade but being left in my traders through the odd glitch in the system. That is why I always pull the cards before Accepting and ask my trade partners to do the same.

Happens to me from time to time too. Very frustrating when you look all over and just can't find the card no matter how well you keep them organized.
This is why I never accept a trade until I have the cards in hand and ready to mail.

5000 count boxes, by year. I then have them in the order ta
hat they are listed here. I keep my Topps separated from the rest because that is what I collected first. My traders are just separated by year, soprt, and some by manufacturer. My Archie Manning are separated by auto's and regular cards. My shaq's are a nightmate because I haven't tried to put them in any sort of order.

For us, We collect sets, So all of our keeps go in 5K boxes Year Set and by numbers. Same way TCDB does it. If its doubles they are in 3200 count boxes listed the same way. Once a set gets to 75% or higher it goes into a binder. All cards over $1 get penny sleeved, any thing over $2 also gets a top loader.$10 or more one touch.

I keep my players in binders sorted by postions, sports.
I have my sets in boxes and in binders, depends on the make/sport.
I have a small amount in toploaders, but mostly 5000ct boxes, and different size of boxes too.
The binders are easier to look at, but they take up more space on the shelf.
I constantly want to switch things up too!LOL

I'm a set collector, mostly. Years ago, my wife bought me a bunch of binders. And ever since, I've kept all my sets in binders by year, organized by team if the set is complete and by number if I'm still working on it.
All the non-sets -- the pre-1951 Topps in my case, are on display on shelves or displays I've created. And everything is logged in here and on an Excel spreadsheet. So, though I'm not a super organized person in life, I can get to any card I own in about three minutes, I'm proud to say.
Whatever works for you is what's best, though.

My collection is small. Limited to mostly Cal Ripken and other more notable Orioles players. I keep my Ripkens in the plastic 3200 count BCM storage bins. They are organized alphabetically by brand, then year, then card number. I have 2 bins and i use the white BCM PVC dividers. The mini sets are broken out separately. I have separate storage for top loaders containing cards with BV of at least 20$. Those are organized by year then by brand.
My other notable orioles are organized alphabetically then by year. That collection is small. Limited to one or a couple of the more noteworthy players, mostly targeted at rookies. My min 20$ BV are also broken out separately and organized alphabetically.

Rankings: #6 Cal Ripken Jr.; #4 Chris Cooley; #6 Sean Taylor; #24 Josh Allen (BUF)

In-progress sets are in 1600 count boxes in numerical order. PC cards are in binders. For Sale/Trade are in 1600 count boxes sorted by Brand, then Year, then numberical order. Completed sets are in binders in numberical order. A few completed sets are actually purchased and still in shrink wrap (I'm looking at you 90's junk wax).

Most of mine are in binders. Starting to convert to several different sized card boxes. I have found that my older cards that are in binders, that I bought 9 count card pages from BCW years ago have an oily feel to them, and the cards are sticking to the pages. (80's & 90's cards mostly.) I have over 150,000 cards so it's a work in progress..
