This Griffey is mine
You could have had one these for significantly less money just a few years ago.
I took for granted how good prices were and now it's outside of my range.

Kind of lengthy list at this point, but for a single card it'll be the 68 Ryan. I had been saving up for a decent copy to finish my set. About that.....

I actually don't have a card that fits this. If I don't have it yet because it's too expensive now, it just means I haven't waited long enough yet when I am willing to spend the money. I guess my dream card right now would be the Stan Musial RC but that was never low enough that I could afford to buy one in the condition I want anyway. I've never had the chance to buy one so far. I held out for 25 years to get an Ozzie Smith RC in the condition I wanted and ended up getting it in a trade instead of paying for the card. Good things come to those that wait for it!!! So I'll just keep waiting for the great stuff and hope I can pounce when it shows up.

1948 Bowman Musial RC. I waited too long. It's the only card I need to complete my birth year set. He was also my father's favorite player.

There was a KSA graded Mario Lemieux O-Pee-Chee rookie on COMC. I had the credit available but held off for some reason and in few days it was gone.

For the record, as one who esteems Willie Mays in the highest regard above all baseball players I REFUSE to call ANY Mantle card a dream card (but I am responding to the OP)...
Even though I need whichever card it was, I passed up either a 1958 Topps or 1961 Topps Mantle All-Star card for $20.00 simply because he was not Mays.

The 1966 Bart Shirley / Grant Jackson card. It is 1 of 2 Phillies cards from the 1960s that I don't yet own (the other being the 1963 Hernnstein/Stargell/etc. RC).
When I first started actively seeking the missing cards from 1955-present day (back in 2012), it had a "book value" of $20, but Icouldn't find it for less than $50 (in mediocre condition, nice ones were $60 - $100). Pre-pandemic, the BV on it rose to $200 as that was actually more reflective of the sales I was seeing. Now, even beat up copies are usually selling for over $100.
I could have gotten one for under $100 (in really nice shape), but I wasn't willing at that time to go above $40 (which was double BV at that point). Now, I'd probably be willing to grab a "decent" one for $60. I still can't justify more than that for Grant Jackson/Bart Shirley. There are plenty of them out there and they are not great players (Jackson had a solid career, but nothing spectacular). But looking back in retrospect, I probably should have jumped on that one opportunity I had, but at the time, I didn't know how good a deal it was or would be.

1992 Winner's Choice Mainiac set. A small racing card set featuring drivers in Maine. I decided I wanted it not long before I found someone with a set at a card show. This is probably around the year 2001-02. He wanted $20 for it, which 17-year-old me thought was too much, so I passed. I have never seen one since.
