Does these variations really matter? To me they are trivial because I don't collect for money I do it for the love of a sport and a hobby.

They matter to the people who collect them. They matter to a person who has say 5000 1991 and/or 1992 Stadium Club Baseball Cards who has been trying to sell them for 30 years with no success and now can sell half of them for 10 cents each or more. $250 that would never had happened if the cards hadn't been identified to show Collectors they exist. Same for INC vs INC., Period vs No Period, Hologram Variations, etc.

Despite what Mark says...in my opinion...not a bit and they annoy the hell out of me.

To some, they matter. To others, they matter a lot. To me and my collection (and yet other collectors), they don't.
But we're here as a site to appeal to all collectors. This is why Admin decided to go the route of variations on these types of differences rather than parallel sets. Imagine if you didn't care about the 1989 Donruss set, but you had to track your set across 4 different sets? Would be maddening. But the way Admin asked us to format things now allows the collector who doesn't care which one they have to mark 1 off and have the "basic" set, and still allows the collector who cares to try and track down each difference. It's actually pretty cool the thought that Admin put into that to help all types of collectors.

Count me in the 'annoyed' group.
I just added a box of 88 donruss dupes this week and it took way too long, even when I only noted all as A.
too many pages....tried to use drop down to show only the A cards....but it went back to all after a few entries..
this is not a shot at you, Dan, at all....(we appreciate all you do), just wanted to vent about how long it took and how my eyes burned from finding the a in the listings...

Please no more junk wax VARs. If you find a new one, tell a priest.
But, I admit some satisfaction whenever I cross one my list. I think I've hit up half of TCDB about '89 Donruss and try to see this as a new kind of hunt. I appreciate everyone who has checked on tiny dots for me, and I salute everyone who puts in time to make this site thorough and accurate. My annoyance aside, the VARs are out there and should be listed here. And now, back to the trading board, only five INC *Denotes* to go!

Might as well finish the Baseball variations off. 1988 Topps Big will have more cards (variations) that need to be added and 1989 Donruss has the Gap vs No Gap woven within the INC. vs INC, then 1990 Fleer with PRINTED IN U.S.A vs PRINTED IN U.S.A., and finally, 1994 Collector's Choice & SP Baseball horizontal vs vertical holograms. I could be missing a few others though, it's getting late.Once that is all done delete them !!!

I wish they did not matter to anyone and everyone but for some, they do and I guess we have to respect that. So I have taken the time to distinguish all of those in my collection and on my traders list. The one good thing about it all is that when I do make that effort, several trades tend to come my way from those to whom it matters.
I do wish though that there was a way to only see and update one of the VAR lists at one time like Mark said.
