This is probably one of the biggest stories in collecting in years

Aye! One reason I've been concentrating on certain 80s-00s sets instead of all the newer stuff. I've all but held up on vintage for awhile because it was getting too stupid even for my reliable dealers.

I'm with you. I'll enjoy the few years that Topps has left and then completely stop once Fanatics takes over. Thank goodness I collect minor league baseball

I'm with you too. I collect for fun, not as an investment nor a business, so I almost never chase the high-priced parallels, graded, nor I partake in the box breaks.
I'm glad I can allocate a bit of my income to this hobby, but I'm sad that kids today don't even have a chance to trade and collect because they're getting priced out of the hobby.

So this is obviously going to tank Topps' value with going public, so I wonder if Fanatics will then just buy out Topps and use them to print all the cards. Either way, if Fanatics' MLB and NFL apparel is anything to go off of, we are going to be getting cards on printer paper selling for obscene amounts either way.

Article says new Fanatics deal with MLBPA starts in 2023 but MLB in 2026. Does that mean during that gap Fanatics can produce cards of players and no logos (which I hate) and Topps will have logos but no active players?

How long before Fanatics scoops everything up? And by everything, I mean NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, NASCAR, PGA Tour, CFL.
EDIT: We might have an answer: https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com/reports-fanatics-to-take-over-mlb-trading-card-license-other-deals-potenially-afoot/
That's at least for the NFL and NBA. Nothing else on the other leagues I mentioned, but I would stay tuned to hear more about this.

Don't watch or collect baseball anymore but this is just wrong. Baseball card collectors you have my sympathy.
I'll laugh like an idiot if Fanatics does this to Panini in basketball.

I'm not a fan of monopolization of one company over a sport already. One company for all sports?! We think we are being priced out now, stand by......
