I know this has been addressed over the years but I figure the hobby has changed enough in the last couple years I wanted to bring it up again. Where is your favorite place to buy commons to complete sets? I am talking truly the filler cards. Not the big name rookies, stars etc. I much prefer completing sets but like everything else in the hobby it is getting increasingly expensive to do so.
- Sportlots - I like Sportlots but the negative is of course trying to find a particular seller that has a good number of what you are looking for. The box shipping option certainly helps to reduce shipping costs and this has generally been my go to for acquiring commons I am looking for.
- Cardbarrel.com (FKA Just Commons) - I've never ordered here but it seems like a decent option. The negative is they only have baseball and I am working on numerous basketball sets as well.
- COMC - I really only do this for very hard to find cards as they are pretty expensive for commons.
It seems like more and more your options turn out to around $1 for 5 cards not including shipping. Depending on how many you are missing you have to do the math to see if you are better off buying a complete set instead of just trying to buy the commons you need. This kind of kills the whole point of set collecting.
Has anybody discovered better alternatives? Thanks for your input.
